The worst one has to be the Toon fan that got Andy Cole tattooed on his leg and then Andy got sold to Utd. For me, I didn't like the Suarez/Torres/Owen(the 3 of them can rot with their PL/CL medals )departures but the one that traumatised me in my youth was Rush to Juventus, but thankfully he was back soon enough and we got another goal machine in Aldridge anyway. Hated seeing Aldo go too.

Gianfranco Zola's move to Caligari in 2003. A bunch of us went to his testimonial against Real Zaragoza. I remember it was a sunny day. He only came on for the second half, but in the first half a new boy (some fellow called Drogba or something) potted his third CFC goal in three appearances. Zola got a grand reception. Sad as it was to see him go, you had to wish him the very best. What a personality, what a gent, what a f***ing player.

How can this thread have fewer posts than a thread about knocking one out over a fast food server?!

As a United fan, the only one that stands out (and I think Fergie later admitted it himself) is Jaap Stam.
That was more due to Fergie's ego than some other club stealing him away though.
Ronaldo is the only one that was really enticed away and even he agreed to give us another year (and title).

I was torn about Kenny Dalglish moving from Celtic to Liverpool. Celtic was my team, but I was really getting into Liverpool at that time.

Efe Ambrose from Celtic to Hibs.
Last night's 5-0 hammering of Astana would never have happened if Efe had stayed. More likely to have ended 5-5. If ever a player had a jinx over him it was Efe. Normally he was an elegant clever footballer but come CL time he would contrive to score an OG, give away a penalty or get a red card.
A Celtic legend, sorry I mean bellend.

Kanchelskis to Everton. Was my favourite Man United player at the time.
My childhood club Balmain never really had a problem with players leaving. All of our greats were 1 club players when I was a kid. Since then I've learned players changing clubs is a fact of modern sport.
I've got to admit though, the handling of the Farah, Tedesco and Woods departures from Wests Tigers recently have left a very bitter taste in my mouth.....

How can this thread have fewer posts than a thread about knocking one out over a fast food server?! When you are an Orient fan, ever transfer breaks your heart, when you excitedly watch a new player make their debut, then see the ball bounce off their fuckin feet for the umpteenth time...

As a United fan, the only one that stands out (and I think Fergie later admitted it himself) is Jaap Stam. That was more due to Fergie's ego than some other club stealing him away though. Ronaldo is the only one that was really enticed away and even he agreed to give us another year (and title). It was very hard to watch most of the 2001-02 season, as it became painfully clear very early on that getting rid of one of the most powerful and best defenders of the Premier League era, then ending up "replacing" him with a 35-36 year old Laurent Blanc (who did ok in his second season) was a gigantic mistake, which must have been very hard for Fergie to admit back then, but it probably cost Man United a good chance of winning the PL for a fourth time in a row, and maybe even another Champions League throphy. The United defence was at times a huge catastrophe, I think we lost 9-10 games that season, and several of them was thanks to godawful defending and horrible keepers mistakes by Fabien Barthez and I remember well how some of the critics and fans of other clubs made lots fun of Laurent and his last name, as United (I think) ended up losing twice to Bolton, Liverpool, Arsenal, Newastle and Chelsea and if you bring those teams first letter together, it says: BLANC. Even worse was it to see how much a failure the record transfer of Juan Sebastien Veron would turn out to become, as he rarely showed up, (most of the times in Champions League) and with Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs, Butt and so on, Veron seemed like more of a "luxury problem" that never quite fitted with how Fergie wanted his team to play. When it comes to Ronaldo, I sure miss him as a United player of course, specially seeing how he has done afterwards at Madrid. If he had stayed, United would probalby win 5-6 seasons in a row and maybe also have another go at the Champions League title and stand a much better chance of winning it, maybe also reaching 4 finals in 4 seasons too. But you could see it all along, his last season he was like a "robot", banging in goals like a machine but rarely looked happy when his teammated celebrated like crazy, and the final against Barcelona was just not the Ronaldo we saw a year earlier against Chelsea, as he now seemed not that focused or hungry, he was just "there". When he left, after over a year of rumours, I was not sad or angry, just tought "meh", lets move on, we will do just fine without him. I respect everything he did at the club. A fantastic player, and maybe the best one I have ever seen in Premier League for the three seasons between 2006-2009, but I never had the same emotional reaction to him leaving as compared to other Man Utd players such as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Nicky Butt, the Neville brothers, John O'shea, Luis Saha or Ji-Sung Park, players that where nowhere near the same level of talent as Ronaldo, but still players who seemed to put the club and the fans first, not themselves and it saddened me much more to see those guys leave after years of great service than seeing someone like Ronaldo leave.
