I'd say now he is. With HELL OR HIGH WATER and WONDER WOMAN and even STAR TREK BEYOND. The Finest Hours was a setback (which does the book no justice) but I think he's recovered.

I'm not sure what the requirements are to be an A lister but I really liked Hell or High Water. It's rare these days for a movie to take it's time letting a mystery unfold.

no, an a-list actor greenlights a movie just with his name attached. Typically only actors with huge international pull.

I'd say a B but he could be on his way to being an A list actor. I never heard of 'Hell or High Water'and with Wonder Woman most people are talking about Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot. Plus, I think he needs to change his name. There are WAY too many Chris's in Hollywood at the moment and it is kinda like it has become a dumping ground for white men called Chris.

No, if I didn't hate Star Trek 2009 so much, in big part due to the bad characterization of Kirk (and the others, I don't condemn him though, JJ Abrams spoiled the ST universe and the actors played what they were told to), I wouldn't know his name at all ; no idea what Hell or high water is (not sure it was in cinemas in France) ; in Wonder Woman his performance was very average (so much better than ST I didn't recognize him at first). It will take much more to make him a referenced and respected actor.

It will take much more to make him a referenced and respected actor. he already is a referenced and respected actor. Maybe (clearly) not to you. And thats fine. But in the general world of cinema he already is that. Referenced, Relevant and Respected. The fact that he was invited to host SNL speaks for itself. Next to more than better results in box office and critical acclaim of his last 10 or so movies. Oscar nom/win directors such as Ava Du Verney, David Mackenzie or James Marsh want him in their movies. There is a reason for it. We can debate whether he is or is not an A-lister (and pulls in enough crowd by himself) but to debate whether he is or is not referenced and respected actor is somewhat silly. He is in a major on going and hugely successful franchise (possibly two), makes several movies a year, is Emmy nominated, has done almost 50 movies in less than 15 years of his career and proven he can do both comedy and drama (or a musical). He is RRR. Hell or high water is an amazing movie, look it up if you have a chance. He has done a great job in it (and was nominated for several critic award for this performance) but the movie is so much more than just his good performance.

Here's a more interesting question... Does the A List actor/actress even exist anymore? Increasingly the "property" is the money maker, not the actor.
Example: Beauty and the Beast - made 500 million in the US. HUGE! Like a month later the Circle opens starring Emma Watson based on a best selling novel and with the added benefit of co-starring Tom Hanks. Flop.
Here's a better example: Vin Diesel stars in the 8th Fast and Furious, way past the point where franchise fatigue should have set in. HUGE money. He stars in the Witchhunter and XXX3. Flop.
Robert Downey stars in any Iron Man or Marvel movie. HUGE. He stars in a drama. Flop.
Its the property, not the star. Not anymore.

Its the property, not the star. Not anymore. i completely agree. stardom (in the sense of their commercial power) is certainly fading. with starts being more and more exposed and accessible on social media it only makes sense. why go see their movie if you can watch directly what they post on instagram/twitter/facebook/whatnot. so my definition of an a-lister somewhat changes into a certain degree of respect, relevance and fandom, instead of pure commercial power that (unless you are Adam Sandler or MAYBE Tom Cruise) you really cannot truly rely on anymore.
