I still question that release date. Has there been any marketing released yet? Is this supposed to be a blockbuster? What is the expected budget? I worry that they'll mess up King again

This is going to be the one good Stephen King film for this year. They've butchered IT just from the images shown.

I'm not so sure. Based on the storyline (or what can be found of it online), this isn't going to be The Dark Tower, but a story based on the books, maybe considering this movie as a sort of continuation of the story. I fear that a lot of people are going to be seriously disappointed.
I have to say, deviating from the books might improve the odds of this being a good movie. Great books, but as with most SK books, near impossible to make a movie of it if you stick too close to it.

Not read the book(s) but have been looking forward to seeing this one for quite some time. It is worrying that they haven't released a trailer for it yet though. Will be a surprise if it keeps that July 28th release date.
I'm also a huge fan of Katheryn Winnick, so that helps!

Maybe a trailer could come out with Power Rangers or Ghost in the Shell

Looking forward to this, so hopefully it will be good. It's been a while since we've had a great Stephen King film, I think The Green Mile was the last great one.

Great books, but as with most SK books, near impossible to make a movie of it if you stick too close to it. I agree. With the exception of a few (Pet Semetary, for one), it seems like the translation of King's books to film are better when they are more of an inspiration rather than a hard guide. I thought Kubrick's version of The Shining was better than the TV movie that followed the book exactly, even though I adore the book. Same goes for Children of the Corn. I love the idea of a continuation story as opposed to them trying to recreate the The Dark Tower world. There is no way they could do it, but I'd be interested to know what happened to Roland after he went through the tower and ended up back in the desert at the end of book 7. ETA: Dammit, I tried using the spoiler, but the brackets never show up for me, so I can't see where it is until I actually post

If the budget amount is true, The Dark Tower probably won't flop. But it does seem like they are hiding this movie. It is strange there is no trailer.

Last time I saw this happen was with Cell, it's not a good sign. If they start to push back the date of release, we'll know not to expect anything.

I understand King's feelings about it, but that television series was pretty awful imo.
Shawshank Redemption stuck to the book fairly closely, I believe, and that one worked out fine. But most of the time, the better movies are not really that similar to the book. 'Stand by Me' is a great movie, not really like the story King wrote. Dolores Claiborne as well, although the book was a lot better still. (all just my opinion, ofcourse)

Correction: I thought 'The Mist' was excellent. I couldn't finish it as I thought the production was terrible. It was like watching a dodgy pirate DVD.

The trailer was released on CinemaCon. Can't find it online, but there's a footage description available from THRTrailer Description: Footage opens with a look at a door frame standing free in the middle of a baron landscape. It then it cuts to Roland in the desert as the famous opening line to King's The Gunslinger, the first volume in the series, is displayed on screen: "The Man in Black fled across the Desert, and the Gunslinger followed.” The footage gives a strong idea of just what The Man in Black is capable of, and it's scarily creepy. Roland and The Man in Black then square off, with Roland telling the villain, "I do not kill with my gun, I kill with my heart." He fires at The Man in Black, who catches the bullet from behind his back. The footage then cuts to the young boy Jake, who lives in New York but has dreams of Roland and a Dark Tower that must stay standing or else billions will die. Jake's therapist tried to tell him it's a dream, but Jake doesn't believe it. Soon, he is shown exploring an abandoned building, where he discovers a portal that takes him to Roland's world. Soon, he presents Roland with one of the drawings the boy made of him from his dreams, and Roland explains that as long as The Man in Black is out there, the Tower will fall and Hell will follow. There are slow-mo shots, including a big fight between the Gunslinger and The Man in Black, as well as an extended look at Roland's prowess with his guns: when Jake is kidnapped, Roland shoots the man who did it from hundreds of yards away, simply by listening to where the bad guy is.
