www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-red-sox-owner-yawkey-way-name-20170817-story.htmlAsinine. You cannot expect 20th Century people to have enlightened views on race. Time and place. Could Albert Einstein run a smart phone as well as my grandson, no. So a six year old is obviously smarter than Einstein. Time and place. Tom Yawkey was a nice guy, otherwise. And his racial policies hurt the Red Sox and himself more than blacks. The Sox were a joke in the late 50's, up to the Impossible Dream season. All because they were getting by with Marty Keough instead of Willie Mays. Don Buddin instead of Ernie Banks. Ike Delock instead on Don Newcombe.

Yeah the guy was a prick but it's not like he was Hitler. He refused to sign black players and the team suffered for it, it's all ancient history at this point. And let's be honest here, this has nothing to do with social justice. It's a marketing campaign, plain and simple. The Red Sox have already 'named' both foul poles and have team reunion celebrations every 3 years. Tonight is probably the four year anniversary celebration of the 2013 championship team with Jonny Gomes throwing out the first pitch. I'm a Sox fan but it's ridiculous what this team does for contrived cash grab celebrations.
Yawkey Way will become Sweet Caroline Ave or Big Papi Lane, and they'll have a grand renaming ceremony, and an anniversary renaming ceremony every year from here on out. (On second thought, I fully endorse renaming it, "Our F*cking City" Drive.)
