On the Classic Horror Film Board, there's an INTK request for a '30s or '40s horror picture. Here's the OP's description: I suggested The Strange Door (1951), with Boris Karloff, which has a very similar plot. The OP insisted that there were no big horror stars--Karloff, Lugosi, etc.--in it. I've tried whatismymovie.com and TV Tropes, to no avail. Does anyone know this one? Thanks!

Does anyone know this one? Thanks! No, but just have the OP watch The Strange Door (1951) < here. Archive.org

The link doesn't work for me. Which link? Mine. Which now instead of being a link to the film is now this message instead:

RiP, IMDbThe OP has just now let me know that he found a copy of The Strange Door and watched it, and that—while there are several similarities—it's not the one.

carlcarlson1 As I wrote in my OP, "I've tried whatismymovie.com and TV Tropes, to no avail." Ah, my apologies. I just spent 3 to 4 days straight looking for an obscure movie (It Came from the Grave, turned out to be a rerelease of Deathdream) and am blazing through here suggesting these sites.

Again, no worries, carlcarlson1. We kind of got to that point on the CHFB where we think the OP is conflating two different movies. That's less because we can't find it and more that there are two films, Uncle Silas and Caravan, that, if combined, would be "his" film. It's also not inconceivable that these two were shown together one night on TCM.
