I agree especially when it comes to people with multiple accounts and cyber bullies but sadly we still have a lot of trolls on the internet. I think the best way to deal with it would be to have everybody speak to the Admins or owners of websites over the phone when they join'cause that way they would know they were real and not people with multiple accounts. If the owners of the old IMDB boards had done that it might still be around today.

I never liked how trolls made crossing bridges so difficult.

While I know there are trolls with psychological issues who get off on being malicious but obviously those ones don't speak for all. Some trolls can be generally harmless, silly and sometimes can make things way more entertaining.

Trolling was kind of funny back in the WIndows 98 and AOL dial up days.
Most people were anonymous, and it was almost a game/outlet to just say or do things you wouldn't normally do in real life to people without a face.
Nowadays, EVERYONE and their GRANDMA is online. People are real. Most people, espcially on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc... are real people with real accounts.
Trolling, while I find it ridiculous, is more understandable in a forum such as this with fake pic avis and fake screenames, but the problem is it bleeds into SOCIAL MEIDA and then it's cyber bullying.

Unfortunately, because of the nature of the information age and internet, trolling gets more and more powerful.
If you "google" a phrase, you don't get the most factual or accurate result, or even the most descriptive one, you get the one most viewed, and control freaks have found the perfect platform for control, because they can put money into "automatic hits" on their posts over and over. They can create fake user names to "like" and "agree" with them.
They don't even care, or perhaps don't want to know, how obvious they are on IMDB. There are easily over a million major movies made in American History alone. I'll dare say over a million with budgets over what would amount to $50,000 in today's money table (over 10,000 in about 1960 or so), which the snobs will say is nothing, but to most independent people, is a lot.
Yet of these millions of movies, when ten posters post their top 100 all time movies, there mathematically should be almost no repetition, yet we see almost the exact same lists, and obvious fake user names "liking" these posts and lists.
Only a moron believes in this kind of coincidence. The mob makes money off this kind of acceptance of coincidence by telling people it's "coincidence" that their blackjack dealers get 20 or 21 in 95% of their hands, and only their "plants", members of their families, ever hit blackjack.
Trolling is even more popular now because trolls not only control the boards, but will accuse the ones not in their fake user society of being the trolls. I've even been called a troll even though there is no logical way to make this accusation (except in jest), since I stand up to the control freaks and their hate agenda.

So how do you explain the same movies being included in top 100 lists before there was an internet? I don't have to explain it any more than I have to explain a cheat. Nearly all movie critics since 1965 have been control freak selections for the job. No explaining is necessary. And most people in the masses aren't confident enough to go against the mob. The internet makes it much easier. But thanks for showing yourself to be a troll, since only a troll would even think that is an issue, and by that you have proven my point.

So it's all a giant conspiracy? Every since 1965 all movie critics have been plotting to make similar top 100 lists for some evil plot to overthrow the world? And anyone who happens to like movies like Godfather II or Casablanca or The Seven Samurai or Jaws DON'T actually like those movies but only think they do because of trolls? That's your theory? Oh and I'm a troll for asking you a question, right?

The problem is that the definition of trolling is still, even now, unclear. Most of the time we can tell what it is, but often someone comes up with a new way of doing it, or worse yet, the Troll accuses someone else of being the Troll and successfully confuses the issue. Quite often the Troll doesn't consider themselves to be a Troll in the first place! They actually think they have a valid point. Trolling it seems is in the eye of the beholder. No, I'm afraid trolling will continue to be alive and well for many a generation to come. Unfortunately.

Sure is ! I keep being called a troll when I answer this one poster's rather silly questions and have politely suggested that she can look the info up by googling or looking at wiki. I have even shown her how to do it. She has yet to thank me for the information but calls me a "bullying troll". ::shrug::
Now our "farty" is a whole 'nuther matter
