I just heard from a colleague who has already seen American Made and wrote to me that it was "amazing" and "fantastic". now given this is a person whose judgment I really trust and whose reviews I have been reading since I was a teenager, I am super-excited about the movie now. The trailer looked great, sure, but after the disappointment Tom Cruise delivered with the Mummy, I was beginning to worry a bit. But from what I heard American Made is supposed to rock! Cant wait. Jealous of people in Europe who get to see it already this week! If any of them are here, let us know once you've seen it (spoiler-free pls) and how you've enjoyed it. Also - Is Cruise drinking the blood of baby pandas or something? He just keeps getting better and better looking with age. I mean look at it, its ridiculous: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEBIJRAkujM

I saw the trailer and it does look good. Tom Cruise needs a hit. I only hope he wasn't much involved in the making of this film because when he is, the movie fails e.g. The Mummy.

It looks like a lighter, more action-oriented Infiltrator.
I liked The Infiltrator, but I hope this is better.

I love the trailer. Sept is gonna be stacked with this, IT, Kingsman 2, Mother!, American Assassin, LEGO Ninjago, Stronger, and Battle of the Sexes.

Do you think it will be better than 'Edge of Tomorrow' or no?

Do you think it will be better than 'Edge of Tomorrow' or no? per my friend and colleague yes. (he did like Edge of Tomorrow too). I loved Edge of Tomorrow so it would be hard to convince me this is even better, but from what I heard it really is a high quality and loads of fun movie.

I was shocked to see it on my movie theater's list of showtimes for Thursday, August 24th!!! I checked to make sure it was the one with Tom Cruise in it. Sometimes, I guess, overseas theaters get movies a bit sooner.

Well, compared to last summer at least which was pretty dry imo blockbuster-wise from the period immediately after Civil War up until Star Trek Beyond. But to your point, way too many tentpoles failed domestically at least from a quality perspective (The Mummy, Baywatch, Pirates 5, The Dark Tower, even DM3) At least this summer though, we got: GOTG2 (which I didn't like but was still an event viewing) King Arthur: LoTS (Bombed but I actually enjoyed much more than Guardians) Wonder Woman Spider Man: Homecoming War for the Planet of the Apes Dunkirk (you and I both feel pretty meh about it but was still also an event viewing) I just think that August has been so bad it's bringing down the summer 2017 a lot too. But, onwards and upwards to Sept!

How is it that people always tend to focus on the negative and forget the positive? Thanks for reminding me about those good movies.

Watched it an hour ago. Very entertaining from beginning to end. Although the basic story itself isnt very innovative as it copies similar tropes from films like Wolf of wall Street and Gold, the direction and performance of Cruise as the lead is enough to keep the viewers hooked.
This film is lighthearted as shown in the trailers, which isnt a bad thing because it keeps a consistent tone but I think a few scenes could have benefited from an increase in suspense and danger with a slightly more darker tone. The visuals of the planes flying are smooth and in parts stunning. I would give it 7.5/10
One slight thing that kept bugging me early on is the fact I couldn't buy Tom Cruise as he is, since the film is set in the 80s and hes wearing his pilots uniform which kept reminding me how he should have looked as in Top Gun, 30 years ago.
Speaking of Cruise, both American Made and Logan Lucky were released here in the UK today. Tom Cruise was the deciding factor in choosing American Made, because I still think he is a big draw.
