I know there are a few threads out about this already, but there have been some big developments: Whedonesque.com, the biggest Whedon fansite, has shut down after 15 years following the revelations his ex-wife made: whedonesque.com/It is truly a remarkable fall from grace for someone who has been given feminist awards in the past for advancing the cause of women. Regardless to what extent you believe his ex-wife's accusations, clearly something was not right there, big time. The closing of Whedonesque.com means many of his biggest fans are abandoning him, I can presume. It is significant for me, as Whedon is my favorite T.V. director, having made my favorite T.V. shows, Angel and Buffy, that have meant a great deal for me and connected with me in ways nothing else has. Add Firefly too. His film work has been terrific too, I have deeply loved almost everything he has written. And yet at the same time, when it comes to politics, I disagree with him strongly on pretty much everything. In fact he has gone absolutely Bat-s insane in the past year with his rants. For me, the answer is no. The TV shows and movies I love by him I will continue to enjoy as much as ever before. But heck, I can still watch Chris Benoit matches and be fully entertained by them. I disagree with him in his politics; and if his wife's claims are true, I think his treatment of her and of women is absolutely disgusting, and makes him one of the biggest hypocrites of all time in the entertainment industry. I can't think of too many other examples where someone has devoted their entire career to pushing a particular message (female empowerment), when in their personal life they have been completely undermining it for over a decade. But I can entirely separate art from its earthly creators, because I fully believe the transcendent quality it achieves (when good) comes from something above us. (even if secular Joss would not agree). But for other fans of his work, have the latest developments put you off him completely?

How is cheating on his wife anti-feminist? It's a dick move, but all it tells me is he didn't respect his wife or their marriage, not women in general. If his wife was black would he be racist for cheating on her? I don't get it. And I'm not defending him, if it's true he is a creep. But he can cheat on his wife and still have feminist values.
To answer your question, I don't care. I can separate the art from the artist. I still enjoy watching all of Mel Gibson's old movies, too.

Well according to the revelations he was playing and swindling many other women as well, hence the serial-cheating. From his ex-wife: "I want to let women know that he is not who he pretends to be," writes Cole, saying behind closed doors, Whedon, now 53, blamed his affairs on the pressures of the patriarchy. She added: "I want the people who worship him to know he is human, and the organizations giving him awards for his feminist work to think twice in the future about honoring a man who does not practice what he preaches." www.thewrap.com/joss-whedon-feminist-hypocrite-infidelity-affairs-ex-wife-kai-cole-says/He may still hold "feminist ideas," but if all this is true, and he has not denied it, he did the opposite of what he preached.

How did he do the opposite of what he preached? Did he go around preaching about fidelity or the sanctity of marriage?

Will still consider Buffy one of the greatest TV shows ever, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse being exceptional TV and The Avengers one of the best CBMs put to screen. It's not blind devotion, it just one man's infidelity doesn't alter the body of work he has made, particularly as their really isn't any hypocrisy on show. Many in Hollywood have done far worse and yet still get massive respect for their work.

I never knew his feminist champion life prior to the past few days in the first place.
Soo... probably nothing about his work changes much for me.
Unless someone goes Mel Gibson, I don't really know all that much about a celeb, & I prefer it that way.

His horndog behavior will not detract from my enjoyment of his work.

I've always hated Whedon's dumbed down trash tv and the fans who lap it up. His crap writing always struck me as slimy and pandering. His downfall is delicious to me.

I don`t see how the quality of his work changes because he cheated on his wife.

Fall? He's going to continue to get a lot of work because people enjoy his work. His bitchy ex-wife's words will amount to nothing in both the short term and long run.

He cheated on his wife, like Billions of other men that doesn't make him a monster.

When did anyone start equating being non-monogamous/enjoying sex with a lot of different women with being anti-female empowerment/anti-feminism?
How would that make the slightest bit of sense?

He cheated on his wife and hates republicans..Negative or positive, can't say either changes how I view his art.....He's always been a hit or miss writer for me, in any case..

Let's all hate Wonder Woman because it's creator lived with his wife and mistress in the same houee, was into bondage and also extolled the virtues of feminism.

He'll be fine. Last time I checked , he took over Justice League and is gonna direct Bat Girl right? Dude will be swimming in even more money.
As far as me liking the guy, no. I always thought he was a phony SJW. And I find his work to be very overrated. I'm actually baffled at all the love/praise that Buffy receives . Fucking laughable.

I watch stuff that entertains me. I really don't give a crap about the personal lives of the people who make the stuff. If I stopped watching everything that was made by a jerk, I wouldn't watch anything. 90% of the entertainment industry are jerks.
BTW, an action/comedy/fantasy show about a very sexy teenage girl who uses martial arts to kill vampires and demons and falls in love with a sexy vampire with a soul is "feminism"?
I always just assumed that he made the stuff he did because he was turned on by hot butt-kicking women just like Luc Besson and Sam Raimi.

Doesn't change anything for me. Buffy will remain, IMHO, the best TV show ever and I'll still enjoy Angel and both Avengers. To be honest, he always struck me as a bit of a dickhead anyway so this revelation (admittedly from a bitter ex), isn't a big deal.
