Excellent decision. I always had the feeling that appeasing Muslims by this sort of dubious Islamic laws was totally wrong. Governments before were totally scared of hurting Muslim sentiments and losing their votes and so never repealed these dubious laws of Muslims.
All people in India have to practise monogamy by law but Muslims are allowed multiple marriages. Next India needs to repeal this law too. I think Mormons are allowed polygamy In USA?

I thought that stemmed from Judaism, the original Abrahamic religion, and was somewhere in the old testament? Biblical facts regarding divorce:
Divorce was allowed in the Mosaic Law for some now unknowable but pretty specific indecency by the wife.
Deuteronomy 24:1
24 If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house,
Eventually the nation allowed divorce for more reasons possibly even including adultery against the wife, against God's direction.
Malachi 1:10 The marriage arrangement in the Bible did not really apply to marriages between Israelites & pagans, so pagan wives could be dismissed at any time once the men came to their sense and realized they were only marrying for booty.
In general, divorces were based on the notion that the man does the divorcing, but the Gospels allude to women being able to divorce their husbands.
Many times, people are under the mistaken impression that just because Christianity is easier, it's more lax.
In actuality, it is far stricter in regards to marriage and divorce. There is really only one option: You have to cheat on your spouse and that spouse has to not forgive you for it.
