Starting with Joker origin produced by Martin Scorsese. What do you guys think and what would you want to see? comicbook.com/dc/2017/08/22/warner-bros-dc-comics-standalone-movies-dceu/I personally think this shouldn’t happen. This will seem like a huge cluster fuck for everything DC related. On the other hand, I can see them making other stories such as Red Son or something. I rather see this for the DC streaming service. Just making a series or a movie there. |

This is stupid. On many levels.
1) Just make it the origin of Leto's Joker. There's no need to add to confusion and start a whole new universe.
2) The DC characters are not split up as Marvel characters are by rights holders (X-Men belong to Fox, Spider-Man to Sony, etc). Just keep one universe.
3) The Joker is not supposed to have an origin. It's one of my few beefs with Batman (1989). He is mysterious and made extra creepy by the fact that he has nothing to lose.
4) This shows a complete and utter lack of faith by DC and WB in the current DCEU. They obviously think that the DCEU is going to fall apart and they want a backup.
5) It's also an obvious waiting game for the DCEU. If it fails, they just drop it and bring this new universe to the forefront. If the DCEU picks up steam, then they'll just say that it's all part of the multiverse and play it cool.
6) It's a cash grab.

That is right again DCfan. Not only was the Joker the first Red Hood in the comic books but he was also the Red Hood before he become the Joker in the 'Arkham' games as evident in all the posters hanging up around Gotham City asking who the Red Hood is in 'Arkham Origins' and you actually getting to play as the Red Hood inside the Joker's mind when he gets sent to Blackgate Prison. The Joker starting out as the Red Hood has been one of those things that has been around for a while in the comic books much like Batman being a leader, mentor and inspiration to Batgirl, Nightwing, the Spoiler, Orphan, Red Robin, Batwoman, Hawkfire, Red Hood (when Jason turns back good even though they still have a rocky relationship) Bluebird and Batwing which is why I laugh when I see people asking how can Batman be the leader of the Justice League when he is more capable of being their leader than any other member and has been a leader and mentor figure for well over 60 years.  |

I forgot to mention. This is not the only DC movie in development that is not part of the DCEU. From what I have read about 'Booster Gold' it is not going to be part of the DCEU either and will exist as a separate movie and 'The Monolith' is being made by Lionsgate. I would love to see the 'Wildstorm Universe' (which DC now own) played out separately with Gen 13, Danger Girl, Wild C.A.T.s, Strangers In Paradise, Stormwatch, The Authority, Wet Works and Dv8 'cause I don't think it would fit the DCEU.'Gen 13', 'Danger Girl' and 'Strangers In Paradise' movies are LONG overdue too and 'Strangers In Paradise' is one of the best LGBT comic book series of all time.

This is a low key way to reboot without admitting defeat. If the "one offs" do well, they'll just happen to intersect and "naturally" form a new universe. Mark my words. I suspect the same thing along with Flashpoint. Just get PHASE 1 (or whatever it's called) over with and begin with a clean slate. |

No, the stupidest fucking idea is the idiots who think that everything has to be connected. Even comics has Elseworlds stories (like Superman: Red Son) so there's nothing wrong with movies having Elseworlds stories.
And no, not everything should be connected. I've always said that WB is smart to keep the DCEU and the CW TV shows separate. That allows them the creative freedom to tell different stories without trying to force-fit them into a shared universe, unlike MCU which is dumb to try to force their TV shows to connect to the movies and failed badly at.

The problem with having a separate DC movie franchise that is not connected with the rest of the DCEU is that it creates brand confusion, doesn't matter how good or bad the product could be it will still puzzle a lot of people. This will be especially confusing if The Joker appears in another movie or two the very year this origins movie supposedly is released. Using the ol' "its a multiverse" defense doesn't shut people up about this and only a small fraction of the movie going community will understand what it entails. Unless an earlier DCEU establishes it, general movie goers will still be puzzled by whatever continuity differences, if any, are presented in the film. I can only see Flashpoint establishing this idea, and that would be a smart move to do so but I don't think they'll go out of their way to make it so. A Joker origins movie is in my opinion a bad idea, part of the appeal of the character is that his origin is never set in stone, even his most iconic origin piece The Killing Joke is probably his imagination gone wild -- as he is, y'know, totally insane. One of the things The Dark Knight got especially right was that The Joker gave different backstories for why he turned out the way he did with a few implications of what may have truly been his backstory which fans are still debating about -- For example, plenty think he has a militaristic origin from his "truckload of soldiers" line. |
