One of the last great remakes in horror. I love this movie. Barbra and Ben are the only two likeable characters in this one, I get that they really wanted to amp up Harry Cooper being a dick, and they did, but at a choice between the two, I prefer watching the original Harry Cooper. And a side note, it's a bit odd that the remake Harry Cooper is dead, and the original is still alive.
Love the ending, the rednecks to the rescue! And the music...if you hear that music anywhere, just AIN'T the same without the camera sounds.

It's one of the remakes that actually isn't too bad. Barbra being more useful in the remake was nice but her transformation in some GI Jane was a bit too much IMO. I still prefer the ending of the original.

One of the first horror films that I saw in a theater. It's a pretty good remake. I too appreciate that they made this Barbara tougher. Tony Todd is excellent, and so is Tom Towles, but the movie sure turned Towles' Harry into an over the top piece of shit. The guy can't die soon enough.

I actually preferred when it showed on Sci-Fi channel because it would slightly cut down on his screaming and yelling like the moron he was.

I like it. It's not quite as good as the original. There's a certain creepiness to the original movie that is missing. Still it's good. I like that they made Barbara more of a badass.

it certainly was an interesting late 80's/ early 90's transition from the original, though i still prefer the original.

Amazing really how a 1990 movie can feel so much more dated than the original from 1968. Cheapish cinematography & routine directing make this feel almost like a TV production. Characters are nowhere near as interesting as in the original and many of them are overwritten.

I like this a little better than the original. Mainly because I like the ending better.

I saw the remake before I ever saw the original (I was nine). Tom & Judy Rose were annoying as hell, but one of my favorite quotes from the whole was "What in the name of Jupiter's BALLS you doin' here, little lady?"
Gotta love the rednecks. LOL

I love this movie. Better than the original, which was really good. I just love the remake. The girl who played Judy Rose was on an episode of Frasier, and she was annoying as hell in that, too.

Haven't seen this one since the good old days of VHS, so I thought I'd check it out again. Still feel pretty much the same way about it; no match for the 1968 classic, but director Tom Savini does provide some terrific moments of inspired horror (like that severed hand bit, an especially nice touch) and it was cool having the female characters stronger and tougher, as opposed to just being typical screaming damsels in distress. However, as they say, it's difficult to improve upon greatness. Still not bad at all, though.

I’ve always loved this remake!!! I watched it straight after the original. To me it’s what the original should have been. It did everything right that the original got wrong. I liked in the remake that they kept Mr.Cooper alive longer. He didn’t deserve to get killed in the original like that. He was just trying to protect everyone. In the remake he was just an asshole who deserved to die.
I also really liked the actors in this so much better. Tony Todd was really good in this. I also really liked the woman who played Barbara in this and really liked her character much better in this one.
The ending I think was also better in this one. I just love this remake so much.

Tend to forget about it (until it is mentioned) but it was a good remake. Nice red herring at the start with the old guy in the cemetery "I'm sorry!" Patrica Tallman was in Babylon 5 and also played a deadite in Army of Darkness. "You will all die! You shall never get the Necronomicon!"

The Thing and The Fly are often declared the best remakes, but those are really hardly remakes, aren't they? I don't think the word "re-imagining" was a thing back in the 1980's but that's what those movies are. Night of the Living Dead '90 is a straight remake and it's one of, if not the best one. It's the exact same story with the exact same characters and the exact same locations, but it's updated and made by someone who truly loves the original and fixes its few faults. It's not as iconic as the original movie, it's not as important to cinema, but it's arguably a better movie.

I greatly dislike this remake. It shits on everything that makes the original subversive and unique even to this day in favor of Hollywood cliches. Ben is no longer the final guy. Barbara's PTSD is non-existent and she's now Ellen Ripley 6 hours after watching her brother die. Harry the dick who was actually right all along in the original here is pretty much just Satan. Etc.
