1. Since I don't remember any of the other nominated songs from that year and it's a pretty decent tune, sure why not?
2. He's OK, I'm not batcrap crazy about him. Being from the Midwest, I much prefer Bob Seger and John Mellencamp as I can relate to their music and lyrics a lot more.

One of the three or four best songs to win an Oscar for me, among those I've had the pleasure to hear. Deserved, for sure.
