Great early reactions so far. A few are mixed, but most of them are very positive. I don't try to rely too much on early reactions, but these are pretty thrustworthy since most of them are from actual critics and not from a random It fan.

and looks like it'll return to the 80s at parts. That's nice to know.

Pennywise will be different - the actor didn't want to try to compete with (or repeat) Tim Curry's version.
I'm looking forward to seeing this.

RT critical consensus:
'Well-acted and fiendishly frightening with an emotionally affecting story at its core, It amplifies the horror in Stephen King's classic story without losing touch with its heart.'

the movie WAS genuinely terrifying, I can't even remember the last time I saw something that put me at unease, probably the Babadook, this movie was just fucking horrifying though...most likely worked because all the kid actors were so likable you actually care whats going to happen to them unlike 98% of all horror movies these days.

Pennywise will be different - the actor didn't want to try to compete with (or repeat) Tim Curry's version. I'm looking forward to seeing this. That's good for multiple reasons. 1) No one can repeat a Tim Curry performance. 2) Curry's Pennywise is not the book Pennywise.

I did like the movie a lot. The acting was superb. The kid actors were simply amazing. It constantly keeps surprising me how good some kids are as actors. Every single one of them here was spot-on. Obviously the plot is good, the visual is extremelly pleasing, the astmosphere magical and suspensful at the same time. For some reason I didn't find it terrifying or even scary except maybe two scenes, cant quite put my finger on why, but I did find it very entertaining. Would give it 7.5/10. I do wish they had kept the gang-bang scene from the book though. That was one hilariously odd scene. Go see if. Not like you need to be reminded of that obviously, but… don't wait for the home screening I mean. Its great to see on a big sreen.

As a huge fan of the book, this movie was the new version tailor made for the ADD generation.

Really liked this movie overall. Some legitimately creepy scenes. Think it peaks though with about 25-30 min to go. And the CGI was bad to awful at times.
But still, this is an event viewing and I'm intrigued to see where they go with Chapter II.

He had a massive stroke a few years back, I think he's in a wheelchair now as a result. Absolutely loved the film. Losers club were great, some genuinely scary moments but overall just a really well told story. For fans of the book there will be some moments you'll maybe be disappointed didn't make it in, but overall it's an excellent movie. The guy playing Pennywise does a great job.

I don't know guys. I didn't dislike the film but I was a bit disappointed overall. It wasn't scary at all but I think that had to do with them showing 90% of the scares in the trailer.

As of this writing (early on the Saturday after it began playing in theatres) IT has only been out for one day and maybe one showing, so I assume some people have already seen it and can say whether or not it was a good movie.
But this movie was getting a ton of love before hand. Weeks ago there were folks talking about how much they wanted to see it and how much they're looking forward to it.
Why?
It has no known stars, its based on Stephen King which are usually (NOT ALWAYS, BUT USUALLY) sucky, and its an R rated horror flick which again don't usually do huge money at the box office (I know there have been some successes but usually an R rated horror flick does OK business at best).
It might be a good movie (I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know), but this was getting love before anyone even saw it. If anything I would have thought that Dark Tower would have gotten that love what with its following, but NOPE.
So what's so different/attractive about this one?

Weird, You see, this right here is proof of your @$$holiness. There's absolutely no need to start some shit. Couldn't you just let it go? He gave his opinion, that's all. You could've given your opinion too, which would have been more effective in countering his, and live and let live. What it is that makes you so angry? Or is it, as I suspect, that you just LIKE to get into it?

He didn't JUST express his opinion. He felt the need to insult everyone who liked it along the way.

So what's so different/attractive about this one? Because the book itself has a special place in A LOT of people's hearts and the trailers have gone out of their way to show the world that this is a faithful adaptation. The Dark Tower film trailers never looked this good.
