It seems that this is a file photo when he was part of a touring company of SOUTH PACIFIC, one of his earliest jobs. He must have a good singing voice to have been part of a stage musical. Presumably, he was among the sailors singing THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A DAME.

baj2 fwiw "He has two small tattoos on his right arm. One says "Scotland forever", the other "Mum and Dad." He got them when he enlisted in the Royal Navy at the age of 16." The image posted was in the "Young Sean Connery" section and he looks really young in it. You are right about him being in South Pacific but the image doesn't strike me as a show photo and the uniform is just not right for an American Sailor in a musical comedy.

I just found this -- Sean Connery singing! A terribly silly movie, but one of my favorites-- Darby O'Gill and the Little People.

There was a few scenes in Darby... that I thought was pretty scary considering it was a family movie from 1958. Something to do with a stagecoach, if I remember correctly.

Something to do with a stagecoach, if I remember correctly. There are two marvellously scary scenes in it that I remember: the stagecoach--with a headless driver--sent forth to dispatch Darby to the afterlife is very scary, and it's prefaced by one of the most frightening images in any children's film: The Banshee.

Noted, thanks They might aslo just have used the uniforms that they could come over at the time, and used them even if they where historicaly wrong, maybe bought in an Army 'n' Navy shop.
