Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
I am so disappointed!!! I loved GotG Vol. 1.
I'm not a fan of the MCU, but the GotG caught me off guard. It reminded me of the 80s sci-if/comedies I grew up with.
I saw GotG Vol. 2 tonight, wow, I hate shared universes. I don't know if it's restrained to the parameters of the MCU to fit in, or just not getting what made the first so good, but it lost everything I loved about the original.
I haven't been this disappointed since Matrix Reloaded. 5/10...

it has probably the least to do with the rest of the MCU out of anything in the franchise.
that sucks you didn't dig it, though. i thought it was a pretty good followup.

Really liked it. Probably more so then the original. Fast, funny, terrific soundtrack, with some genuinely strong performances. James Gunn did miss an opportunity for a Tango & Cash reunion but really not sure how you'd get them in the same scene.

Oh, look, the little dumbass who hates all the MCU films hated this one, too. What a surprise.
And yet you're always more than happy to suck the DCEU's dick every chance you get for being "dark and edgy". Fucking hypocrite. Go to Hell. You'd praise a movie you felt was forced to conform to the DCEU's perimeters just because its the DCEU and therefore it can do no wrong in your eyes.

I enjoyed it but it was trying too hard to recapture the original movie's freshness.

But the GOTG franchise has little to do with what's going on in the MCU, in fact, it's more like its own thing out of all the MCU sub-series.
And of you hate "shared universes", why do you love the DCEU?

And of you hate "shared universes", why do you love the DCEU? What? Haven't you heard? Everything the DCEU does is great! Because of OH, THE EDGE! MELLO MUST BE ABLE TO CUT HIMSELF WITH IT BEFORE HE IS SATISFIED! But everything the MCU does, with its sense of adventure, its use of color, keeping characters in-character, and actually allowing audiences to talk out not feeling depressed? That's ALL wrong! Everything the MCU does is wrong, man! I mean, who wants to have fun at a superhero movie? We gotta make everything symbolic of Christ getting crucified, make sure all the colors are dark and muted, and everyone has to scowl, grunt, and wallow in self-pity for the ENTIRE THREE HOUR running time! Who has time for conversational dialogue and the occasional joke when you can have everyone stand in awe at how IMPORTANT EVERYTHING IS! THIS IS IMPROTANT, DAMN IT! STARE AT THE PERMANENTLY CLOUDED OVER DARK SKIES AND SOAK IN HOW IMPORTANT THIS ALL THIS!

What you just said about the MCU is one of the reasons why I love the MCU, and the reason I'm not a fan of the DCEU. When I saw Wonder Wonder I was surprised to see how colorful it was. Like Patty Jenkins used a different color palette or something, plus the characters in WW didn't broot and mope, they actually emoted.

So you want to go back to Nolan's Batman trilogy?

Yeah, Wonder Woman as of right now is the only standout in the DCEU, and it will probably stay that way. They probably won't learn the right lessons from it apart from "PEOPLE LIKE WONDER WOMAN! Put her in everything!"

Peter Quill got angry over one of his mother's most precious gifts to him getting smashed right in front of him. You know, that thing he's held onto and figured out how to repair and maintain despite being innumerable light years from Earth? That thing that helps him keep his memory of his mother alive via their shared love of old songs? His anger over Ego heartless breaking that in front of him made the film go down in your eyes? Seriously?

...i'm actually with Egoraptor on this one. it's been well enough established that the Walkman was emblematic Star-Lord's close connection to his mother.

Simply one of the most lowbrow movies I ever saw. I will not go into the abysmal writing and execution of this dreck, but will let the movie speak for itself:
(beware mild turd & nipple spoilers)
Nuff said: Pure undiluted raccon turd... if you are not dumb enough to laugh with the movie, you still can have an even bigger laugh at it!

...i'm actually with Egoraptor on this one. it's been well enough established that the Walkman was emblematic Star-Lord's close connection to his mother. yes but it is still abysmally written: To have a dead-mommy revenge conflict (like in IM vs Cap "I don't care, he killed my mom") intersect with silly humor is absolutely tone deaf. Same with the dramatic reveal of killer-daddy where he suddenly morphs into David Hasselhof, or the infamous Hasselhof funeral speech. The raccoon turds always float at the shallow end of the kiddy pool.

It wasn't as fresh as the original, but it was a great follow-up sequel. Kurt Russell, Michael Rooker, the chemistry of the cast, the added development of Gamora and Nebula's relationship, and the visual effects were the film's greatest highlights. A big detractor, as mentioned, was Ego revealing he killed Meredith Quill, and I personally felt the comedy was a bit forced. Drax's sex jokes were just too much. The soundtrack wasn't quite at the level of the first film's soundtrack, but I appreciated listening to new songs like "Brandy" and "Sham Bam".

Seriously? No I get that it was a gift, but I felt it was an unnecessary line because the murder of his mother should have been enough, but that's just me.
