As a guitar player Stevie has been one of my biggest influences.
RIP Stevie.

he is sick. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) If you're talking about the sweat and pallor, it's hot on stage. The cocaine and whiskey didn't help much either. "I drank to take the edge off the drugs, and I did the drugs to pick me back up from being too drunk." -SRV, 1988 But he cleaned up in rehab in 1986, then died in a helicopter crash after 4 years of sobriety. I guess life is funny that way sometimes.

It's going to be a long time before anyone that brilliant will come along again." -Eric Clapton

Wow, I can't believe it's been 27 years. I first heard Stevie Ray when I was starting to listen to a lot of the much older Blues music. Even among the old masters his star shines brightly.

Too bad you all don't live here. They revere him and play him often. I never get the feels from his playing.

The first time I heard SRV I was driving down Rt 1 in Maryland and listening to WHFS, when "Texas Flood" came on. I pulled over, counted tracks, and waited for the DJ to come on and give the playlist.
I came across this quote from Eric Clapton recently:
"The first time I heard Stevie Ray ... I was in my car and I remember thinking, I have to find out, before the day is over, who that guitar player is. That doesn't happen to me very often, that I get that way about listening to music. I mean, about three or four times in my life I've felt that way, in a car, listening to the radio, where I've stopped the car, pulled over, listened, and thought, I've got to find out before the end of the day, not, you know, sooner or later, but I have to know NOW who that is.

I've only heard Couldn't Stand the Weather, which is awesome. I need to get round to the other albums.
