We go to a ton of different stores. We like different stores for different things. We mostly buy a handful of things here and there, as we're in New York City, and my studio is in Jersey City, which is part of the metro New York City area, and which is just like Brooklyn/Queens/etc. We keep our vehicles near my studio in Jersey City.
Anyway, the "short story" answer--I actually do the bulk of our grocery shopping at Trader Joe's in Millburn, NJ. I'm there often because I hike at South Mountain Reservation often, because it has a variety of decent hiking for someplace so close.

trader joes has long lines around here....solid place, tho. I try to go first thing in the morning on Saturday/Sunday when they open at 8. The store is empty and it's pretty quick. When I go after work, it's not terrible because I tend to work late so again, the fray is over. But if you go at the peak time, it's not so much the lines that are terrible, but rather the parking lots. For whatever reason, all 3 Trader Joes that are nearby have these parking lots that are like vortices of insanity. They are undersized for one and they're always right off crazy busy intersections. Plus, people are dicks anyway; when you throw in (i) after work hours, (ii) hunger and (iii) typical vehicular road rage from slobs who think they're invincible when protected by their bubble, it's a bad mix. All that aside, it's a great store that has tons of great options. As I've switched to a more subsistence shopping routine, it's been awesome. Everything we eat is fresh, not really expensive (a common misconception is that Trader Joes is more expensive than the typical store, which is just false) and we have drastically cut down on our food waste. Plus, their employees tend to be really friendly and knowledgeable about the products. What's not to like?!
