Have you seen the Tales from the Darkside episode about Halloween? It is tremendous. Out of the Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside, Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock, etc - it is one of my favorite 'shorts' of an anthology out there - ending scared the crap out of me when I watched it as a kid. As far as Trick R' Treat goes - it's got a 'soft spot' in my heart now and has grown on me over the years - I was initially a little let down - but like Preach stated above - it's about 'Halloween' - it's a fun ride if you take it for what it's worth - you're not getting The Shining here - but it's 'Halloween' If the Tales From the Darkside episode you're referring to is the one entitled "Halloween Candy" and features a cantankerous old man being terrorised by some kind of goblin, then yes I've seen it and it is absolutely sublime. I anticipate re-watching it soon enough. I'll have to give it a watch. Tales From the Darkside was hit or miss like a lot of anthologies. Some great eps with some bombs too. The beginning intro was great. I'm actually referring to an episode called 'Trick or Treat'. link below: Tales From The Darkside - Trick or TreatGreat stuff

I actually do know that episode, but don't remember it as well. I do recall liking it, however. Gonna check that one out come October as well.

Don't know if you remember an old school classic on HBO called 'The Hitchhiker'. One of the most badass openings IMO. Intro theme music gave me chills as a kid. link: The Hitchhiker IntroThey'd play this show like they did Tales from the Crypt - late on a Saturday night.

I'm from Ireland and I don't think that show ever aired in my part of the world ( The Hitcher, I mean. I'm familiar with Tales From the Crypt). It looks intriguing. How does it compare with those other vintage anthology shows?

Just like the rest - i.e. Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside, Twilight Zone, Alfred Hitchcock - had a few classics - but it had it's fair share of duds and bombs too...... It's why I don't mind the Twilight Zone marathons that play the same eps - because they are the classics!

I like your list a lot and wouldn't ask you to change a thing about it. I've been kind of cold on Halloween so far this year. It's been pretty consistently hot, there's no leaves blowing around, I went to a couple haunted houses and just felt kind of bored. I also missed out on the annual all night horror movie festival at the local drive in theater because I had to be out of town, so that was a bummer. Anyways, I'm doing my best, been catching up on past seasons of American Horror Story, and here's a list of what I've recently watched and what I plan to watch leading up to Halloween.
Last week:
American Werewolf in London Gone Girl (in my opinion a great Hitchcockian thriller to watch around Halloween) Popcorn
Tonight: Curse of Chucky Cult of Chucky Crimson Peak
Coming weeks: Frankenstein Bride of Frankenstein Bram Stokers Dracula Brides of Dracula Society Flesheater Nightmare on Elm Street (movie theater screening) Jigsaw (in theaters) Halloween (movie theater screening) 78/52
Halloween night: Nosferatu (haven't decided which yet) The Witch Night of the Living Dead

If you like stuff like The Crucible you should like The Witch, it's more of an arthouse horror movie, aiming for dread over jump scares and no CGI ghouley face stuff.

For me horror season starts around mid-September and doesn't stop until the day after Halloween. During this time I try to find new horror movies to watch...and they have to be good! If I find a good one I throw it into the lineup for the following year. I also watch the old standby's during this time as well.
A typical example of my horror movie lineup:
Halloween (1978) Halloween II (1981) The Blair Witch Project Night of the Living Dead Hell House LLC The Houses October Built Hellraiser Hellbound: Hellraiser II Nightmare on Elm Street (original) Session 9 The Omen (1976) The Exorcist Rosemary's Baby Carrie (original) The Haunting (original) Paranormal Activity Paranormal Activity 3 The Descent The Shining It Follows The Birds The Fog (original) The Thing (original) Friday the 13th (original) The Mist

Nice to see a couple of Paranormal Activity movies in there (which typically get bashed). I love em. The Mist too.....

I think the PA movie's get bashed because of their success with the masses, people on the Internet tend to do that a lot when something is over the top successful. Both of the PA movies I've listed here are first rate horror movies if you ask me.
