I did, and you're welcome. Not sure why you are confused though. Is it so surprising to you that someone else might actually already know about stuff that you think you're educating them on? Or that they might not be a fan of "singers" (and I use the term lightly) like Johnny Cash? Because that would be the height of arrogance if true!

...Lee was a military genius though he commanded an inferior army against the Federals which led to his and the Confederacy's downfall... Perhaps my reading of the Civil War conflict is wrong but I remember learning that it was generally a series of defeats of the Northern forces until Gettysburg although the tide was turning, and that the failure of the old South's cause was largely inevitable by the end due to the industrial strength of the North - coupled with the inherent handicaps of an antebellum society, more than anything else.
Johnny Cash's rendering in favour of the Confederacy is acceptable. Others of his time were more problematic. For instance I have several albums by Marty Robbins which are flat out offensively and aggressively racist and which seem to have been lately rather suppressed or left unspoken of.

...some additional facts:
Robert E Lee was married to George Washington's grand daughter. The Lee family also owned the land where today, thousands of US veterans are buried...the place is called Arlington National Cemetery...
