Sending many prayers and good thoughts to those in Texas fighting to survive the floods. It's awful!

Totally agreed, Spider. One wishes one could do more than just watch these people suffer. One wants to just hold them... Life is so fragile. at times..

Sending many prayers and good thoughts to those in Texas fighting to survive the floods. It's awful! What a nightmare--especially the tragedy of those 6 family members trapped and perished while driving thru the flooded streets

I watched PBS Newshour to get more information about the disaster. It's heartwarming to see all the people who without regards of themselves reaching out to help each others in a situation like this. Isn't that the real America? What worries me though is that their will grow a frustration and irriatation with all the waiting for this to go back to normal, but floodings take such long time to go away. I had a flooding a couple of years ago, and it took over a year for thing to work normal again. Everything I had in my cellar was destroyed, my childhood and lots of memorabilia, so I can feel with those people who suddenly lost so many things. Many things can be replaced but not old photoalbums and other family memorabilia. What makes me angry is that some idiot sent out viraly a pic of a shark swimming the streets of Houston, just for the fun of it. That pic of a shark swimming a street was photshopped by another idiot in connection with a flooding in Puerto Rico, the pic always pops up when there is weather disasters. The pic is a fake and has never been true. Im the midst of all this dispair I couldn't help smiling when I watched this: The dog Otis carrying dog food he has found. He has been reunited to his owner.

Well, we made it through. I live in Pearland which is directly south of Houston. We had about 42" of rain in about two days. Thankfully our house managed to stay out of the water but our street was like a raging river (very fast flow). I think that's actually what saved us from flood damage as many homes had water that had no where to go. Our neighborhood used to flood quite easily but the city did a drainage project about 5 or 6 years ago that seriously helped us out.
My parents live on the east side of Houston and took in about 3" of water. Fortunately they had installed ceramic tile in their house a few years ago but they had sheet rock damage. Lots of other people though are much less fortunate. We've been volunteering around the neighborhood helping out others rip out carpet and working at the shelters. This is the first day I've been able to post on imdb v. 2. Thanks for all of your prayers and concerns. Houston and the surrounding areas have really come together.

Well, we made it through. Thank God for your good fortune, vegalrya, but I'm so sorry you and your family had to go through it at all. I'm still sending prayers and good thoughts to you and everyone there who needs them.

And about this: "It's heartwarming to see all the people who without regards of themselves reaching out to help each others in a situation like this. Isn't that the real America?" I would say, yes, that's the real America. It's just too bad that lately it seems to take a disaster for us to remember it. And yet we do.

I have to agree. I'm not a very political person although I try to stay on top of current events around the world. It seems with 24 hour news stations and internet news the country has become much more divisive. Events like this storm though really bring people together. There have been people of all faiths and colors coming together to help one another out during this tragedy. It really makes me feel good about the USA when people come together.
