after the frist one they get more and more sluggish, and the robots interacting was the best part of the first one, so of course they split them up in the second and they are not as funny

Love them both, too, but definitely the edge goes to Star Wars, IMHO. It is a self-contained story that doesn't require a sequel (or, lord save us, any prequels) to be great.
Empire is great, too, but as it is part of a larger story, requires ANH and RotJ to "complete it", so to speak.
