I always appreciate being blind-sided by a great movie that is either never talked about or undeservedly hated.
Are there any standout movies that seem criminally underrated to you?
A few recommendations of mine are:
The Dirty Dozen Memento The Great Escape For A Few Dollars More Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Batman (1989) Rocky III

ALL movies i gave a 7/10 or higher but have a 6.4/10 or less average score on IMDb (IN NO ORDER)...
-Good Kill (2014-2015) - 6.4/10 average -The Rover (2014) -Terminator 3 (2003) (within my Top 60 movies and the 2nd best Terminator movie behind the 1st movie)
-Young Adult (2011) - 6.3/10 average (within my Top 108 movies) -The American (2010) (this is within my Top 26 movies. this is THE lowest rated movie on IMDb i gave a 9/10 or higher.) -Twister (1996) -Assassins (1995) (within my Top 108 movies)
-Adore (2013) - 6.2/10 average -London Boulevard (2010) (within my Top 108 movies. this and Phone Booth are Colin Farrell's top movies hands down.) -Restraint (2008)
-A Man Apart (2003) - 6.1/10 average (within my Top 60 movies) -S1m0ne (2002) (within my Top 60 movies. this and the movie listed above are THE lowest rated movies on IMDb that i gave a 8 or higher.)
-Some Kind of Beautiful (2014-2015) - 5.8/10 average
-Only God Forgives (2013) - 5.7/10 average -Blame It on Rio (1984)
-Drive Angry (2011) - 5.5/10 average
-Spring Breakers (2012-2013) - 5.3/10 average
-Showgirls (1995) - 4.6/10 average (this movie seems to fit that 'undeservedly hated' category well. but i have a feeling this movie is not as disliked as people seem to suggest on IMDb. this movies average score should EASILY be no lower than 5.x/10 as there are much worse movies that score much higher.)
but just to list some others that are already rated pretty well but seem to fly off the radar on IMDb a bit and i think are great... Road to Perdition (2002)/Open Range (2003)/Lord of War (2005)/Training Day (2001) all of those should easily be in the Top 250 as those are the only movies i gave a 10/10 that are not in the Top 250. the rest are in the Top 250 which is an additional 5 movies. i could list a fair amount more if i wanted but that's close enough for now.
@ OP ; For a Few Dollars More is already in the Top 250 so i can't see how that's underrated, at least not all that much (but technically, going by how much i personally like it... then yeah, it's underrated as i would place it higher in the Top 250 than it is for sure. but looking at wide opinion on IMDb then it's still already praised and in that regard not really underrated). for the record... that's within my Top 9 movies in general is a four way tie for my #1 Western ever with Good Bad Ugly/Once Upon a Time in the West/Open Range (2003). also, personally i think Memento is crap as it's very overrated if you ask me as only Nolan directed movie of any real worth would be The Prestige (2006)(8/10).

I guess that one was more in the slot of "fairly unknown", which I probably should've clarified separately. However, I also believe (as you do) that it deserves to be up with the other classic westerns like Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. That's also part of the "underrated" part for me. Thanks for the huge selection of other underrated movies by the way.

sdrew13163Hell, i think it's still a well known movie as it's in the Top 250 and i would imagine just about anyone familiar with Good Bad Ugly likely has seen For a Few Dollars More etc in my estimations especially with it being same director and more importantly for the masses it's Clint Eastwood. But i guess if you think For a Few Dollars More is underrated in the sense it's ranked noticeably lower than Good Bad Ugly/West in the Top 250 then i guess you could claim that it's underrated. Here is where those three currently rank in the IMDb Top 250... -Good Bad Ugly = #9 (because it's within the Top 9 and there is only nine movies i gave a 10/10 then technically i can't really say this is underrated. but if it was #10 or lower then technically i could say it's underrated on some level. but like i was saying just being in the Top 250 still means many praise it well enough and in that regard it's not really underrated.) -West = #30 -Dollars More = #102 (so given this is ranked #102 and Good Bad Ugly/West are placed much higher i can see why you would think this is underrated on some level. but i think to claim anything in the Top 250 as underrated in general is somewhat of a stretch especially if you don't get into the personal opinion details like you and i mentioned already.) Well given those are only 6.4/10's at the highest for the average it's safe to assume many around here won't think all that much of em. maybe a little here and there though. but as you can see only 19 movies managed to score a 7 or higher from me that have a 6.4/10 or less average rating and that count further drops if you based it on a 5.9/10 or lower average to only six movies. under a 5.0/10, only 1 movie but like i was saying i feel Showgirls should definitely not be below a 5.0/10+ BARE MINIMUM for the average as for whatever reason it's like that movie is popular to hate on when i don't really think people think it's THAT bad especially given it's pretty easy for any semi-known/known movie to score at least into the low 5's for the average and somehow that one did not even though it's a movie people know unlike plenty of forgettable movies that score into the 5.x/10 range or higher. o well, things played out however they played out
