Saw this on Netflix last night, assumed it would be sorta Cat-On-A-Hot-Tin-Roof-ish, but it has its own thing going on!
What made the movie for me: Orson Welles with his fake nose and southern drawl so southern it almost was just jibberish half the time! I loved him in this! He might have seemed "too actor-y" for some, but I loved his performance.
Angela Lansbury giving us her best southern belle and Lee Remick looking more gorgeous than ever, two highlights as well. Lee Remick's character, Eula, drove the local men to howling in the bushes!
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward met and fell in love on this movie, which is far sweeter than what plays out on screen. The story is sort of the weak link in this whole affair, but the madcap goings on by the cast seem to make the movie very watchable. I sat in bed eating watermelon while watching it, with the fan on, perfect for a summer's night.
What did y'all think of it?

I have seen the movie many times and I love it each time.
Poor Jody. Damn his daddy was hard as nails with him. At least he had Lee Remick to come home to.

Saw it forty-some years ago. Didn't care a great deal for it but one scene's dialogue has stuck with me.
Ben: Well, I'll be damned.
Will Varner: More than probable, you will be. But first, you're going to church and get married, yeah, to my daughter.

Lee Remick was lovely to look at, a great actress and appeared in many fine films. Why did she not achieve superstar status? I doubt if many of the younger generation of film fans could identify her.

The furter back I go in her filmography, I realize just how great she really was. I'd mostly only known her for The Omen, until recently. I saw he in Days of Wine and Roses awhile ago too, she was very good opposite Jack Lemmon.

Indeed she was, plus: A Face in the Crowd (1957) Anatomy of a Murder (1959) Wild River (1960) just wonderful in this! Baby the Rain Must Fall (not a great movie but she more than commands attention against Steve McQueen which few actresses could do) The Detective (1968)

And adding EXPERIMENT IN TERROR for Lee -- Blake Edwards was very good for her career in 1962 along with WINE AND ROSES.

Lebowskidoo π¦ Anatomy of a Murder is on EweTube. I just googled it and there are several free to watch copies. When I first saw it, I remember being impressed that the judge is played by a REAL judge and he was active in the McCarthy hearings. I had absolutely NO idea what the film was about and seeing it again, I have no idea why I was allowed to see it back then! NOT a kid friendly film !

Anatomy of a Murder is ESSENTIAL viewing!!!
And fans of the lovely Lee Remick should seek out The Running Man.
