Week 1 of the NCAAF is upon us.
There are only three games involving the top 25 and I'll watch all three, of course.
Sat 3:30 PM #11 Michigan vs. #17 Florida Sat 8 PM #3 FSU vs. #1 Alabama Sun 7:30 PM #22 West Virginia vs. #21 Virginia Tech
I confess that I haven't been following the latest news regarding College Football (I stopped paying attention after the end of last season) so other than using the AP top 25 ranking as a guide, I have no idea how the other teams are supposed to be.
So, I'd like to get some advice from people who know the current state of these programs.
Other than these three games, what additional games do you advise me to record/watch this weekend? What will be likely to be balanced/good/exciting, among non-ranked teams, or a ranked team vs. a non-ranked team?
Thanks.

Rutgers was brutal last year - but for some reason I'm intrigued by Washington coming all the way out to the East Coast for it's first game. Want to see if Jake Browning really is the real deal and if they've lost a step on defense and truly deserve that Top 10 ranking. Curious to see if it's a 58-0 pounding like it should be. Same goes for Louisville vs. Purdue - doesn't seem Lamar Jackson is getting much respect after winning the Heisman. He's a human highlight real. Curious to see if he can duplicate his success from last year. Also BYU vs. LSU ....

Just saw some highlights from other games. Lane Kiffin got smoked in his debut with Florida Atlantic vs Navy. Army - put up a ridiculous stat - they thew the ball a total of 2 times the whole game - but ended up winning 64-6 over Fordham. That's crazy. One potent running attack or Fordham must be brutal defensively. They probably run every form of the option under the sun.

The two games I watched so far were balanced until second half... then became a beating.
Ohio State-Indiana was exciting until the middle of the third quarter, with the Hosiers appearing capable of pulling off an upset, leading 21-20... and then they lost 49-21, LOL.
Same with Wisconsin-Utah State. First half, 10-10... final score, a crushing 59-10!
I also watched Stanford-Rice for a little bit until the trashing got going; final score 62-7!
With all the boring NFL pre-season games (I hate the pre-season) I'm really craving some competitive games.
Hopefully this will be provided today and tomorrow.

Watching Penn State v. Akron. Saquon Barkley is a beast (yeah, I know it's the Zips) yeah - he was offensive player of the year i think in the Big 10 last year. saw that last run that got called out at the 6-7. impressive how Franklin turned this team around - after the Pitt loss early last year i thought he was going to get axxed. curious to see if they stay in the Top 10 all year and how they do against Michigan, Ohio St, Nebraska, Michigan St......

I'm watching Cal @ UNC, not paying much attention (multitasking a bit) but at least it's 7-7. I think the opening week should have more games with adversaries of comparable strength, it's no fun to watch a game like Stanford-Rice.

Saquon could turn out to be the best Penn State RB in history. And that's saying something. John Capeletti, Lydell Mitchell, Franco Harris, Ki-Jana Carter, D.J. Dozier, Curtis Enis. I thought that PSU might never recover from Sandusky. The program would nose dive like SMU (it had a worse reputation). James Franklin has been a miracle worker. Hopefully, he doesn't bolt for the NFL. We will see if the defense can keep them in games. USC shredded them and I'm sure all the opponents watched the shit out of that tape.

Blair Thomas is another one. Must be a curse - seems like a majority of them - they've all been duds in the Pros.

Lydell Mitchell was a good back. Better at pass catching. Born too late, he would have fit right in the the pass happy days now. Ki-Jana would have been good if healthy. That Harris fellow had a respectable career. Probably the one that did the least at Happy Valley.

I.E. one of those guys that 'benefited' from being on a 'loaded' team? Not saying the guy wasn't good - again - I'm ignorant to the fact - but weren't those Steelers teams loaded? And isn't it rare if you hear Harris' name come up in the discussion of greatest RBs of All-Time - was he that good in the NFL (or am i being ignorant) - maybe Penn State because those teams were legendary. But the guys you mentioned - i.e. Carter, Dozier and Thomas - these guys were supposed to dominant in the NFL.

For every OJ Simpson, there's a Ricky Bell. For every Marcus Allen, a Reggie Bush. Charles White, Lendell White. Same with Miami QB's.

See - I liked Reggie Bush - I get he didn't live up to expectations - but wasn't he 'above average' so to speak - didn't he finish his career with the Lions but was eventually just became too injury riddled? Did he start off with the Saints? Reminds me of Ricky Williams a bit - beast in college - got ridiculed in the Pros - but if you look as his contributions and stats - no - he's not Hall of Fame status - but he was 'Above Average' - RBs in today's league don't last long. Really intrigued by Zeke in Dallas because he's a beast - same with Fournette - what happened to Gurley on the Rams? It's really an odd spot in the NFL right now. Fullback is gone. It's why everybody says you don't draft a RB in the first Round - reminds me of the Center position in basketball. Is it becoming a position where you just plug 'a guy' in there to switch up the change of pace?
