Huh, I thought drinking lowered blood pressure... and since one of his eyes shows signs of pressure... okay, he shouldn't try drinking. I thought drinking might make him a little more 'live and let live'... it always works for me!  No, no, no! Avoid alcohol if you have BP problems! 'Ware! 'Ware! Reminds me of that old saying for people who love to drink. "If you drink, you die. If you don't drink, you die too. So you might as well drink." Guess it works for blood pressure too. I don't drink much, but I still have rather high blood pressure. Guess I'm not getting any younger.  |

Is there a function on this site where I can block fleetsin completely, where I don't even see the existence of his worthless posts? Because I was joyful when the admin restricted him to one thread. It is really fucking annoying that the whiners won the day, but if there is a way I can completely block this idiotic spammer completely from my sight, I won't be so pissed off. Is there such a way?

I wasn't trying to suggest an exact equivalency, merely that even in the case of Tarantino where there is--at least superficially--a historical and fictional context that justifies the usage (sometimes; he's used it in his plenty in his non-historical films too), there's still (reasonable, IMO) controversy over its appropriateness; and let's not pretend as if Tarantino isn't a much more comfortable white dude playing with that term that has no bearing on his existence either. If you listen to Spike Lee, he's being just as "careless," and one could potentially argue even more so since his films are seen by far more people than fleet's poetry is read by. Would be curious if anyone could paraphrase one of fleet's poems that used it. I'd just like to look and judge for myself (or maybe fleet could just repost it) Asking someone to recreate a fleet "poem"? Diabolical, sir.  Shouldn't be too difficult; just imagine what the poem basically said and then put the line breaks where William Shatner would pause in reciting it. |

First, block thefleetsin. Then, go to your profile and edit it. Go to "Privacy". There, you have a list of the blocked posters; they have checkboxes. Make sure all five boxes are checked. If the checkbox about the user's threads is missing, you need to download some script. I forgot which. Maybe Admin knows. If the checkbox is there, you will then not see the posts of the blocked user. Unfortunately, the board will look smaller. |

What I mean is: If there are 50 threads on the first page, and 20 of them are started by a particular poster, then after blocking this poster's thread you only have 30 threads on the first page. I would have preferred that the first 20 threads from page 2 would be moved to page 1 (threads not started by the blocked poster). But you can't have everything. Still better than not having any block options at all. |

But right now the public forum shows us a president who can lie outright and repeatedly, who clearly wants to restrict freedom of speech and the free press, and in that context...
