Do you mean the murder of Lady Diana or Mother Teresa of Calcutta's death?

I was watching TV when it was announced, about to go to bed. My family was already asleep so I wrote a note and left it on the dinner table before I left for work. My job then required me to be there at 4 am or earlier.

It wasn't 20 years ago. It was a little more than 8 years ago.
When you ask ambiguous questions, you get ambiguous answers.

Do you mean the murder of Lady Diana or Mother Teresa of Calcutta's death? You mean the DEATH of Princess Diana. Diana wasn't murdered. To answer your question, yes, I was referring to Diana, because last night was the 20'Th anniversary.

I heard about the crash in passing as I was going to bed, real late. Then saw the headlines that she was dead the next day when I got up.
I wanted to go out and get an inflatable Alf to show my respects, but they'd just sold the last one.

Many feel she was. She was stepping upon government"s toes and was to marry an Egyptian, which would have embarrassed the Crown.

If you were aware that I was talking about the anniversary, then you should have been realized it wasn't necessary for me to give a more precise description to my question. It would be the same if someone posted that kind of question on the upcoming anniversary of the Attack on the WTC.

If I started a thread on June 25th in a year that ends with a 9, asking "Where were you when you heard the news?" without further clarification, it would be perfectly acceptable for fans of the Charlie's Angels TV show or the movie "Extremities" to ask about what news I am talking about.

Except that Mother Teresa didn't die on August 31'st. She died on September 6th. Regarding June 25th 2009: That day is far more knowledgeable as the day Michael Jackson died. This of course, is because MJ was the bigger star, but, also because his death was far more sudden, whereas Farah Fawcett died of natural causes (cancer), so people were sort of prepared for her passing. The same with the afore-mentioned Mother Teresa. She died at the ripe old age of 87 years, & therefore, although it was really sad to lose a living Saint, it came as no shock for the world. Princess Diana's death was a complete shock; Michael Jackson's death was a complete shock. Neither Mother Teresa's nor Farah Fawcett's deaths were shocking.

But I still don't remember where I was when I first heard the news about Lady Diana's death, or Mother Teresa's. But I remember where I was when I heard the news about Michael Jackson. Or 9/11.

I suppose 9/11/01 must have usurped Diana's death in your memory, for you. Usually, the more shocking the news story, the less likely one forgets where they were when they heard about it.

I really don't get the obsession over Diana. She was a very naive girl who just wanted to be a princess and didn't care about what she had to do to become a princess. So she married an ugly guy twice her age to become a princess. There was no love there - it was a means to an end. And when the marriage didn't turn out to be a fairy tale we're meant to feel sorry for her?
If (rather than being the crown prince) he'd been a film star or a wealthy business man and a pretty young woman half their age married them and then complained about it not being everything they'd hoped for the world would be crying "gold digger". But Diana got a pass for some reason.
I'm not saying that I'm happy she died - not in the slightest - but she obviously only married him for his title and the accompanying lifestyle/what it could do for her.
And to directly answer the OP I found out she'd died cos one of my friends called me (waking me up) and told me pretty much when the news broke. So I was at home asleep. And the news could have waited until the morning in my opinion...

I think those conspiracy theories regarding Diana's death was absolute nonsense. And on a side note, it is unlikely that she was going to marry Dodi al Fyad.

While yes, Diana did marry for the royal title (her personal nickname from family & friends was "Duch," which the world only learned about after she had died, was because she told people that she planned to marry a man who was at the very least, a Duke), I believe that she--like everyone else who get married--married for love as well, & wanted Charles to love her too. If she hadn't, & was only after the title of Princess (& later Queen), she wouldn't have cared that Charles was having an adulterous affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
