Somebody likes Chaplin and Japanese cinema, especially Kurosawa!
Being a compulsive buyer of DVDs and later blu-rays, I own almost all of them, but I haven't seen more than twenty-five. Some of the older ones (like Sunrise, City Lights and The Kid) I honestly can't remember if I've seen or not.
I don't dislike any of them (although I still cannot comprehend why The Shawshank Redemption is so highly regarded) but it's certainly not a list that matches my taste. For starters, only ONE French film? Come on!

Once Upon a Time in America. Great Cast. Woods. DeNiro. Pesci. But it was soooooo loooonggggg, sloooowww, and boorrring. Great musical score though. One of the few movie soundtracks I felt compelled to buy. Beautiful piece - Deborah's Theme - Ennio Morricone. link: Ennio Morricone - Deborah's Theme - Once Upon a Time in America

No David Lean? One western (not The Searchers), one Hitchcock. A lot of love for Billy Wilder (not a bad thing).
I never have seen the abject worship for Shawshank either. Good movie, borderline great. Top 50, nope.
And I agree with the soundtrack for OUATIA. Loved the movie, one of the great final shots.

And sincere apologies to the masses - I never got 'The Godfather' or it's predecessors - snoozefests with a fat guy mumbling over spaghetti. Gangster Flicks Off the Top of My Head I'd Rather Watch: Goodfellas State of Grace Gatti Hoffa Amongst Friends Bronx Tale (wasn't even a big fan) Casino (wasn't even a big fan) Donnie Brasco Carlito's Way Scarface Sorry to offend 'the world' with not liking 'The Godfather' series ....

What I love about this list. There's no: Star Wars Harry Potter Lord of the Rings Comic Book flicks That being said - they couldn't toss a bone to 'sports flicks' and get Rocky, Raging Bull or The Natural in there?

No David Lean? One western (not The Searchers), one Hitchcock. A lot of love for Billy Wilder (not a bad thing). Not even the best Hitchcock, which many people wrongly believe is Vertigo, but is actually Rear Window. Agree about Billy Wilder - The Apartment and Sunset Boulevard are both among my favourites.

Don't forget all-time beauty Tuesday Weld and a young Jennifer Connelly. There was a video store down the street from me named "Fat Moe's", it was the owners favorite movie.

Wouldn't make my top 10 Hitchcock movies!

Man, I hate Double Indemnity. Love 12 Angry Men and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest placements, though.
