Not overrated at all. Not everything he has done is a masterpiece, but his body of work is excellent when compared to that of his peers. He deserves all the acclaim he's gotten.

He's my second favorite director, so I am going to have to say NO. Ok but was he better when he was coked up a lot? You can say that about de niro for sure. Like in the 80's when he could do all the coke he wanted to, culminating in his most coke fueled movie to date: Goodfellas?
coke is overrated

It is if but only if you are a director, everybody knows that pot will help creativity when directing far more.

From what I have heard he got clean in the 1980s. IMO he was more inconsistant in 1970s and 1980s actually. New York, New York is one of his few movies I dislike and that was made in 1977. Silence is one of his best movies as far as I'm concerned.

No I don't consider him overrated. For someone with his longevity to still be making consistently critically and commercially successful films is fairly rare and impressive. Think of how many other directors whose form has suffered in under half of that time.

Yes. Very much so. He's done a handful of great films, but far more have serious problems in my opinion, including that he needs a tough editor to tighten up most of his work.
