This movie is one of my favorites, although I believe that Debbie Reynolds was much better in later films, especially in HOW THE WEST WAS WON. She had a definite talent for comedy, which was glossed over in SITR, except for her first scene in her car, which really could have been funnier if she was given more of a chance. The best performance was from Jean Hagen as Lina, and I think she was robbed of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

It's a film which grew on me. I now like it very much. I should re-watch it at some point.

Even though I'm not a big fan of this particular type of musical, this movie is one of the best produced.

I never stop being amazed at how you manage to turn even your own shouted threads into a negative reading experience. This is a WONDEROUS and joy filled movie with terrific performances by one and all , fantastic musical numbers, happy and sad moments. Case closed. Why rain on the parade with "shudda, wudda, cudda, " ?

It's one of those movies I like to watch from time to time, especially when I have seen too many movies in row that has disappointed me.

teleadmMe too ! I have a tv that plays dvd's and I will pop this one in as I go to sleep. Old, familiar, much loved voices of friends who can never let me down. Recast it ? Change it in any way ? NO WAY ! AND no matter how many times I see it, the SPLASHING in the puddle makes me LAUGH.

teleadmI never noticed that art school sign before today ... wonder what else we been missin' The image site had lots of pictures of Gene on the lightpole but most of the splashin' ones were from the Stage Productions. I am so out of touch Broadway-wise that I didn't even know that there WAS a stage production. No desire to see it now that I know. Messin' with Perfection !

Can't I be critical of a movie or actor without the likes of YOU jumping down my throat? So we don't always agree; too bad, so sad! This is still America (despite Trump), not North Korea, and I am entitled to my opinions, and to express them, whether you like it or not!!

I rewatched the movie yesterday, just as lovely as I remembered. I can't really figure out what Mahout actually sells (The shop behind Gene Kelly). It says "Smoke Mahout", maybe it's a tobacco shop ??
