Welcome to the beginning of the end for women's sports.
Life is not fair. There are all kinds of restrictions for all kinds of things. If you don't have perfect eyesight, you can't be a pilot, no matter how much you really, really want to be a pilot. If you are grossly overweight, you can't be a firefighter, no matter how much you really, really want to be a firefighter. So what is wrong with saying that if you are a woman who was born as a man, you can do whatever the hell you want except play professional women's sports? Would that be so unreasonable?
Organised sports have age classes and weight classes in some cases and also a perfectly sensible gender separation. If you accept the principle that a sports league can have a rule that states that only women are eligible (which is a discrimination against men), why can't the rule simply be changed to state that only individuals with two X chromosomes are eligible, regardless of the gender they identify with?
Perhaps the simplest solution would be for the league to rename itself from AFLW to AFLXX...
