30 years old.
I think it gets better with age.
It puts to shame Transformers 2007 which follows a similar kind of plot (a weird sonic device is a lot cooler than your great grandfather's glasses with a map on it).
Cannon was refreshing despite uneven output--since it offered subjects the big studios wouldn't touch--and appeared to be devoid of the communist anti-white tone of the other studios, in fact, one notable thing about MOTU is that it has no diversity! Not a single black cop or asian pedestrian to be seen (it doesn't have much in the way of crowd scenes anyway).
There's little chance Warner Bros, Universal, Fox etc would have made a movie where the hero is a tall Nordic blonde guy who actually beats the bad guy without aid from a multicultural crew or made into a wise cracking figure-and despite Lundgren's not entirely forceful acting, he is not playing the character as a charmless joke like Sam Jones in Flash Gordon.
In fact, one of the great things about Frank Langella's amazing performance is that there isn't a shred of camp or tongue in cheek to be found--he portrays Skeletor entirely serious.
The story has no white man failure element--even the light-haired male teenager uses his musical skills for positive effect in the plot. In that sense, an Israeli-owned company made a more old fashioned American story than any of the major US studios at that time (i.e. in Predator, Arnie is shown to be badly whipped at the end of the movie).
As a comic book-themed movie with Star Wars and Back to the Future mishmash on a modest budget (compared to other similar kinds of films), it is one of the best made--in the top 5 along with Robocop and Superman 78.

I LOVE MotU and ESPECIALLY the great thespian-actor Frank Langella's portrayal of Skeletor.

The actress from 'Manifest' SHOULD play Evil-Lyn IF a REHASH/RETREAD is EVER actually made.
