Or was it over hyped?

It was overhyped but it is still a good film. It is certainly no masterpiece though.

It was great. I loved it. It has flaws but the good most definitely outweighs the bad.

Let's be fair here, just about EVERY major film gets overhyped these days. So: yes, it is.

Is it better than "The Green Mile" or "Stand By Me"?

Is it better than "The Green Mile" or "Stand By Me"? No, but it is worth seeing.

Yes very overpraised. While it's not a bad movie it just didn't leave an impact on me. It may have been because I had the original still so fresh in my mind. Pennywise was fine, but again Tim Curry made the role memorable. The new Pennywise won't be the one everyone thinks when they hear Pennywise. The movie also felt way too much like Mama which is no surprise since it was made from the same director. Especially when they went to the house you could tell it was him.
I certainly don't mind seeing it again and I will happily put it next to my original IT DVD I just wish the movie made more of a "WOW" on me where I just left like "huh" like as an ok. I'd give it a B.

The kids were mostly fine, the clown was the worst part, which may be a problem for some.

I'd rather have my fingernails pulled out than watch Mama again. Mama was hardly horrible and not much worse than It.That is your opinion. I fucking hate the movie. It falls into every horror cliche know to film, it has laughably typical horror cinematography and is very poorly directed. I also felt that Chastain was phoning in her performance because it isn't even remotely effective. The movie doesn't even come close to being scary, creepy or emotionally engaging.
That is my opinion.

It was surprisingly good. It was well casted, both the kids and pennywise. Definitely can't wait for chapter two!

That is my opinion. Are you saying It didn't have cliches? Dark, overstuffed basement without a working light. Older bullies who run around with impunity. Villain has lots of chances to kill the kids but never gets even one. Decrepit, old house. Fat friend. Wise-cracking friend. No useful adults.

I didn't say It doesn't have cliches but it uses them much better and is a far more interesting and far better made movie that actually managed to make me care about the story and the characters and is actually scary. Not to mention that It is based on a novel written in 1986.

Is "It" better than the first two "Conjuring" films?
