Cuz they made 2 billion off of Abrams junk food - leftovers writing da first time. Them apparently got tired of pretending that they were going to make something original by hiring all of these other people who apparently didn't want to do it. They never cared about originality in da first place. That's why TFA was da way it was. And that's why they're going to hims as a writer."No soup for you!" "You get Abrams junk food leftovers cuz we sold out all of it on you the last time!" Meesa thinks they're gonna find out though. They really did make it to 2 billion cuz they fooled some people. Thems not gonna make 2 billion off of Abrams writing. People can see it comin' this time. Da only question left is... did Rian Johnson really make something original because for a time they were tryin OR did Rian Johnson just pretend and make a puppeted story of rehash with Kennedy and Abrams pulling da strings? This is silly. Nothing is original. All you need to know is ancient story telling to understand this. i.e. The Matrix is often considered "original" by modern people but in reality it's a huge rip off of ancient Greek philosopher Plato's work, Allegory of the Cave. All stories stem for a set of ancient story archetypes (about a handful), while all modern characters stem from a set of ancient character archetypes (about 12). Star Wars might seem "original" but it never was - not even when George Lucas was in charge. It isn't just Star Wars either. We can use any movie, novel or TV show and the archetypes are present in the works. All modern writers have stolen from the past. Even the movie Pulp Fiction that people like to claim is so "original", isn't nearly as unique as people think - not in terms of story or characters. They don't often get called out on it (stealing from the past) because people are so ignorant. When people rant on the internet about how Hollywood has no good ideas, I just shake my head because no one has good ideas. It's all taken from the past and repackaged for an audience that has no clue of history. No they didn't get called out for it because original is a relative term. At some point every car body design ever made stopped being original because it borrowed from a combination of previous sources. Even the first automobile body designs borrowed from something else. But if I make a body design that is extremely close or almost identical to another one I'm going to draw some recognition for it. Most likely in the form of criticism. Possibly accusations of plagiarism. And then slapped with a lawsuit.

I would've preferred either Rian Johnson (though I suppose we'll need to see how TLJ turns out) or someone new. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they're playing it safe. ST now equals The Safe Trilogy.

Wait a minute!... JJ Abrams is directing and writing. And Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy are co-producing?!? This is going to suck bantha turds!! Time to buy a DVD set of the OT and close the book on SW ever being real SW anymore! I'll probably go with the nieces and nephews if they ask me when it comes out. But it'll just be a popcorn munching Disney parody that I'll take a nap to in the middle of the movie. At least now I know I never have to get hyped to SW anymore or have any expectations. If I don't go to accompany someone else I'll just wait for to come on the Disney channel years later and watch for laughs. There's no reason to take the story and it's characters serious anymore. Lol I could care less about Episode IX, but I'm really curious about the inevitable Episode X. What will it rehash, the Prequels? The Safe Trilogy? Will it really be a copy of a copy? Abrams will direct that one, too, no doubt.

There's a difference between a Star Wars film being unoriginal for Star Wars and it being unoriginal in general. I don't think anyone was expecting TFA to be a completely new story, but most of us weren't expecting to be reminded of ANH's plot points, character types, etc. as often as we were. If Disney had at least rehashed outside material, it wouldn't have been so bad since "new blood" would have been entering Star Wars.

This is great news. Abrams knocked it out of the park with TFA. He and Kasdan are primarily responsible for bringing me back to the SW fold. Y'all can keep your twelve bucks. They've already convinced me to buy every adult canon book in existence. That's like $150. So about a dozen of you haters can rest easy at night knowing that your lack of attendance in the theater will be recaptured.

That's because, like I said, there are only so many storylines and character archetypes to take from. Star Wars doesn't seem as "original" now due to the nature of the medium. What does that mean? Well, movies and TV shows have become the main medium by which story tellers spread their stories to the masses. It isn't books or radio or really stage shows anymore. It's all movies and TV which can preserve stories much easier, than say, sitting around a fire place telling stories. Many ancient stories go mostly unread and forgotten by the masses. It was way more difficult for story tellers back then to preserve and spread their stories to receive credit. This is why a lot of modern works seem original - they don't have to compete with the real originals that most people don't read/see anymore. It's all rehashing. There are no new ideas. Hell, even human history repeats itself.

Hell, even human history repeats itself. And yet there's been SW video games that had more originality than TFA did. Ones that made tons of money too. Besides, why should I settle for results from people who are paid millions of dollars to do something I could've done myself and not even try hard. If I had been a fly on the wall of the board meeting discussing what the story was going to be for TFA, I would've told them fire Abrams and Kasdan. I can knock that story out in a couple of weeks for 10% of what you're going to pay one of them. Sorry... not buying it pal.

Third installment of a trilogy will make less than the first? You don't say! Meesa thinks you know what Tarpals is implying. There's going to be a demographic that is not going to show up for episode 9 just because Jar Jar Abrams is writing it. And Tarpals is not talking about something as small as 1% either. It's gonna reflect in da box office results. And weren't yousa da one who implied this trilogy is gonna be the best ever? Even at da box office? winterssuicide Avatar winterssuicide Full Member *** Jun 16, 2017 at 9:19am Quote likePost Options Haters gonna hate. Proof of the fact that there is only a very small, very vocal group of haters on nerd sites like this will be in the TLJ box office pudding. It's going to be like, $240 bajillion dollars worth of puddin' and you should rub your butt in it. Maybe sweet-talk it some.Sounds like yousa not a warrior like Tarpals. Sounds like yousa back peddling.

First, you correlated my goofy comment about a dozen of you staying home up into the grand scale of total viewership, which, intrinsically is ridiculous. But I played along anyway. Second, my comment that you've scrounged from months ago is in reference to an entirely different movie. So you seem to bait people by comparing apples to apple orchards or apples to oranges and then if someone is silly enough to respond, you "call them on it." Third, instead of back-peddling, I'll double down on my comment from June: the ST will be the highest grossing trilogy in cinematic history. Yousa can take that to the bank.

Maybe he'll take all those "TFA is a remake" complaints to heart and do the complete opposite with Episode 9.
