only 3 true Western films really stick out for me ...
1. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) 2. 3:10 to Yuma (2007) 3. The Proposition (2005)
Looking forward to Hostiles which looks like a great Western film starring Christian Bale

2000-2017...
1.Open Range (2003) - 10/10 (within my Top 4 Westerns) 2.True Grit (2010) - 8/10 (my #5 Western) 3.Django Unchained (2012) - 7.5-8/10 (my #6 Western) 4.The Lone Ranger (2013) - 7/10 (my #9 Western) 5.Appaloosa (2008) (my #11 Western) 6.The Salvation (2014-2015) - 6.5-7/10 (my #12-13 Western) -.The Hateful Eight (2015)
p.s. those are the only 7/10's and higher for the Western genre in the current decade for me.

#1. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford #2. Open Range #3. True Grit #4. Django Unchained #5. 3:10 to Yuma
Though if "There Will Be Blood" is considered a Western, then that is in my Top 5.

the Hateful Eight Rango Monte Walsh Django Unchained Cowboys & Aliens
there are still a few which look very good that i haven't yet gotten to. it wouldn't take too much to displace Cowboys & Aliens or even Django.
