I am going to say 
1) Pokemon (Live action, animated Pokemon. Similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
2) Super Mario Bros (The last movie flopped ‘cause it was poorly written. A good Live Action Mario movie could be a big hit)
3) The Legend of Zelda (Surprised this hasn’t been made)
4) Metroid (Same as the above. Metroid could easily work as a live action movie)
5) Perfect Dark
6) Kirby (Animated Movie)
7) Rayman (Animated Movie)
8) Animal Crossing (Animated Movie)
9) Sonic the Hedgehog (Live action, animated Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy)
10) Prototype

The Ratchet and Clank (2016) movie was bad, really bad. Sadly the poor box office numbers more or less killed off or put the plans for an upcoming Sly Cooper adventure heading to the big screen, on ice.
I loved the 2002-2005 Sly Cooper trilogy PS2 games and looked forward to a movie (maybe not expecting a masterpiece, but a good and fun filled ride for the fans of the series), of course if it is done right or at least better than the tratment Ratchet and Clank got.
Now, I guess the chances are rather small, maybe a TV-show or hopefully a new game is to be made in the near future.

One video game i would like to see turned into a PROPER movie would be... Hitman series.
i know we got Hitman (2007) and Hitman: Agent 47 (2015) but those are just simple action movies as we need it to be more along the lines of The American (2010) in it's tone/overall feel which is more of a character study with a little action instead of just a basic action movie like we got with the two movies already released. if done right it could be quite good but that won't happen. if i had millions to spend i would finance a attempt at a proper Hitman movie. with the right director/cast it seems likely it would be better than the two movies we already got at the least.
p.s. at the moment i mildly like the 2007 movie but comparing it to the actual video game it's not properly done as my suggestion would be much closer to how that character is with some tweaks to cater it to the Hitman world of course.

3. Gears of War
4. Resident Evil (a proper reboot)
5. Mass Effect
The chances of these being good are very slim, but it would be nice if they turned out good.

I am really loving Horizon Zero Dawn, but the story feels too linear so the movie version of it may be too by the numbers.

Surprised no one has said Kingdom Hearts. It must be live action with Donald and Goofy being cgi.

Also for some of you. Red Faction was made into a TV movie called Red Faction:origins and Double Dragon was made into a movie in the 80's I believe.

It seems like it is impossible to make a good video game movie.
I think a good live action Mario Bros. movie would be near impossible to pull off.
I think going the animated route would be the smartest movie.

I think going the animated route would be the smartest movie. Wrong. A good video game movie is possible. Watch the fan made film Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. It follows the games very well by respecting the property. It's just no one in Hollywood has figured it out if you follow the story and not make so many changes it can be good. Warcraft was possibly the closest thing to a good video game movie. |
