Duffy’s Tavern was a one-season, 38 episode syndicated sit-com which was released in 1954. The TV series was preceded by a popular radio show of the same name and a 1945 theatrical film. Each episode (radio and TV) opened with star/creator/head writer saying, “Hello. Duffy’s Tavern where the elite meet to eat. Archie the manager speaking, Duffy ain’t here. Oh, hello Duffy.” Neither Duffy or Mrs. Duffy is ever heard or seen during any of the episodes. Duffy’s daughter, Miss Duffy, on the other hand, was a main character. Archie was the master of the malaprop. When running for a local political office, he is accused of something by a voter. Archie orders, “Get out of here you dirty constituent!”
On “The Simpsons” Moe the bartender sometimes answers the phone with, “Moe’s Tavern where the elite meet to drink” – a reference to this venerable comedy franchise which just about no one who watches The Simpsons would get.
I remember laughing at Duffy’s Tavern from some of my earliest years.

I remember it mikef6 however I never actually saw the television series, but rather, remember it from the old time radio series. Perhaps the humor was a little too subtle, as it never really quite resonated with me, even though it was a good show. I should probably give it more of a chance since I've only really heard a few of the episodes. Funny, because I used to watch the Simpson’s, though it’s been many years. I wasn’t familiar with Duffy’s Tavern until later, so Moe’s reference definitely would have went over my head at the time. If I ever catch another episode sometime, I’ll be sure to watch for this. Speaking of malaprop, Archie Bunker has to be in the top 5!

I've never seen the show but I love listening to it on Sirius whenever I catch it.
