Background to this particular hobby horse. So you work in an environment where people have time to talk while they work. Two of the employees don't have to commute to work and are able to habitually go to see every new film on the evening of the day that it opens. They share an apartment and can talk anytime ! Those two employees then come to work and discuss in detail all of the ins and outs of these new films. Nothing anyone says can stop this activity and "management" finds it too small a problem to deal with these two senior employees. You come to loath people who deliberately and maliciously spoil films for others. Ok, so, it's years later. You encounter someone on a message board who insists on "telling the twist" or "telling the ending" and no matter how many times he/she has been asked to stop, insists on doing it. He/she has been told by people who seem to like him/her how to use the spoiler but absolutely refuses to do so and has even taken to starting threads seemingly with the sole purpose of "telling all". So.... Malicious ? Clueless? Impaired brain function? Encountered any such "spoilers" on or off-line ? How did you deal with them?
I know tl:dr ! Taking my soapbox with me when I go !

BATouttaheck My seventh-grade English teacher, a genial woman who despised capital punishment or any other kind of punitive measure, was known to remark, "Hang 'em!" in reference to anyone who spoiled a film, novel, etc. I'm a bit less extreme than that, but suffice it to say I find spoilers annoying, especially when there's a SPOILER key staring you right in the face. I do like to discuss sections of the material that would usually go in spoilers, as I think we under-discuss these because we are so afraid of spoiling, but I'd either mark it off in big letters on top SPOILER--one of the rare good places for all caps --or, simply, just use the spoiler key. I don't really know how to avoid it, sadly. In terms of famous twists, Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd was spoiled for me, as was Hitchcock's Psycho. (Perhaps that has to do with my never loving--liking, but never loving--the latter? But I do love the former.) The Crying Game was all kinda-sorta spoiled for me, but I wasn't impressed with it anyway. (It wasn't spoiled for me, but I guessed the twist to The Sixth Sense upon a few minutes of going in, and I was right, so that doesn't really count. Same thing happened for me with Christopher Nolan's recent Interstellar, which is why I was surprised to see many people celebrating the "huge twist"!) I've noticed that people just like to tell everything, as they think it will get you even more excited for the experience (not realizing that being surprised by the twist is part of the experience)--which may be one of the psychological motivations for which you're looking. Sorry I can't explain any better than that, Bat...

The spaceship doesn't blow up in Passengers. In Casablanca, the world is not destroyed by a one-armed frog named Jorge.

NalkarjGood points and the hang-um is an excellent suggestion ! Way I see it, and how it has been covered in previous discussions here and there is that, IF a film is being discussed on a board that is specifically FOR that film (as they had on the old boards) "secrets" could be freely and openly discussed. "Laura" comes to mind for that. BUT to post a spoiler or an ending on an open, general interest board without using "spoilers" is just rude, thoughtless, mean ? To post, for instance, hypothetically, a thread about the mythical film "Little Dog Lost" and say .... "I wasn't sure all through the film IF the dog would be found, what with today's downer endings BUT I was relieved to see this image at the end (and post a picture of the reunited dog and boy." I mean.. What's with that ? Poor horse, well beaten but <shrug> and In Casablanca he never does say "Play it again, Sam !"

If you go to a forum about the topic, you kind of deserve to get spoiled, but that's not enough for these guys. I remember when Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (book) came out, someone posted "[blank] kills [blank]" on the SCREAM board or wherever I was. POS. If someone spoiled something like that in person, I'd punch them right in the face. The only things I've had spoiled for me that way have been on accident, probably because these spoiler cowards only do it behind the safety of a computer screen.

moviebuffbradI've heard stories of people exiting various Star Wars films and loudly discussing who was who's father and who turned out to be siblings ... within hearing of the people waiting on line to get into the theater. This was before the internet where spoiling has become a team sport. Face punching is probably only a dream tho' .... in reality it's just not done !

To paraphrase someone whose words you may recognize: (On the other hand, in this contrived scenario you've got the lovely Miss Joan Chandler talking to you, you lucky devil.)

I do like the idea in your little playlette <little devil emoti that won't work> , Nalkarj I'm figuring that the stolen paraphrased line is from Rope?
I confess I had to IMDb-filmography Joan Chandler and looky what it said : It has been variously suggested, that Joan's career may have suffered as a result of blacklisting by HUAC, or, because of a physical similarity to another, more established actress, Diana Lynn.

But... Wait, wait, wait, Bat... Almost as confusable as this lovely couple: You see what I'm seein'? (Now I fully expect Miss Chandler's spirit to haunt me for the rest of my days for doing that. I would much prefer that to Fillmore's spirit doing the same, though...)

BATouttaheck said: Aye, aye, Cap, it's from Rope. This emoji, though-- ? If you ever decide to go to Congress to advocate for legislation for a "murder holiday" to slaughter the folks who spoil movies, (1) I'm moving to an impenetrable bunker, and (2) I'll send my seventh-grade English teacher over to join you in that endeavor. When it's all over, though, I'll emerge from my bunker to write the script for the film adaptation: Mr. Bat Goes to Washington.

<---- none would work in the last "missive" ... poltergeist maybe. Chandler and Baldwin ? Nopers, not even as close as Wayne'n'Payne ! Could probably car pool to DC with Teach ! Be fun. Plus could pump her for info about l'il Nalkarj when he was a lad in school.
