The 5th game between Ind and NZ was just as shocking. An Indian bowler was beaten for 34 runs in a single over and NZ seemed to be on top and then they lost that. I hope that WC defeat is not having a demoralising effect.

Joe Denly England's sole highlight (87 off 103 balls) in a stonking loss to the Saffers in Game Ome. Hundred to de kock and 98 to Temba in a 7 wicket win.

Denley and Woakes could/should have added another 50 runs to the score. They rarely got the ball to the boundary and got bogged down with singles. Also a crap performance from our bowlers.

To be fair Denly's there to rotate the strike to the big hitters, not hit 6s and 4s. Also, they were 6-131 about 30 overs in. They needed to consolidate and did so. Denly made 41 runs off his last 32 balls. I don't think he coyld have done much more tbh. It was just a very poor effort from the rest of England's top 7.

Ross Taylor powers NZ to a good win over India in game One, smashing 109no to guide his team to a 4 wicket win chasing 348 with 10 balls to spare. Iyer's 103 and 88 from Rahul proving in vain. Some truly shitty bowling figures as you can imagine. Thakir head of the class with 0-80 off 9 overs. Southee (85) and Yadav (84) went for more runs but also bowled 10 overs and took 2 wickets each. Bumrah (0-53 off 10) and de Grandhomme (1-41 off 8) and Santner (0-58 off 10) were the only bowlers who went for less than a run a ball. de Grandhomme looks like Phil Simmons compared to the rest tbh.

Oman also beat Nepal in a historic first ODI in Nepal. I honestly thought NZ were going to choke again.
In disappointing news, the Charity Bushfire T10 game scheduled for Saturday before the BBL final in Sydney has been postponed/cancelled due to predicted inclement weather. Of course it just so happens it’s the first time in years, ever actually, I’ve managed to get tickets to a BBL final, but it is what it is. Hopefully the rain holds off for the main show.

In limited over cricket everybody needs to be able to swing the bat. I get that Joe may not have the power to clear the ropes but he should be capable of more 4s than he delivered.

Yeah, best wishes for Shrek.
To address a couple of other points raised: I'm not surprised in thsme least by NZ defeating India and won't be surprised if they win the series 3-nil. What they showed in the T20 series was that they are as good a side as India, they simply didn't finish games. So they didn't need to go back to formula, they just need to work on their finishes. 50 over cricket is a different beast anyway.
And just on Denly: he was playing the exact same role that Joe Root has been playing in ODI cricket for years. There will always be a place for a guy who scores 1s and 2s off most balls and holds up an end going at aboit 85-90 per hundred balls. Once England were in trouble it was his job to make sure he batted deep into the innings and get England through their 50 overs, with the guy at the other end taking risks. Problem is when your 6 down after 30 overs Woakes can't take risks either and the second he did he hauled out. So England never got into a "Happy Hour" situation. They were always too many wickets down.

Bangladesh 3-66. Lost two wickets early and then lost another right before I turned back from the Rugby. Sharks smashing the Highlanders 27-3. Mamudullah looks like getting out every other ball. I know you're naturally out of sync when you first come out, but being that far out is realky pushing your luck.

I’m currently sitting in the SCG - no rain ATM, but very damp. Hoping for something this BBL final !

Cricketer Nasir Jamshed jailed over spot-fixing Pakistan international batsman Nasir Jamshed has been jailed for his part in a spot-fixing scandal. He was arrested with Yousef Anwar and Mohammed Ijaz last February in a National Crime Agency probe. Jamshed encouraged other players to fix a Pakistan Super League (PSL) game in February 2018 by getting batsmen to avoid scoring runs from certain balls in return for a share of £30,000. The three defendants were jailed after admitting bribery offences. An attempt to fix a Bangladesh Premier League match towards the end of 2016, and an actual fix in the PSL, were uncovered by an police officer who posed as a member of a corrupt betting syndicate. Jamshed, from Walsall, was initially targeted in the Bangladesh plan which was later called off. He then acted as a go-between and encouraged other players to spot-fix at the PSL fixture between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in Dubai. He initially denied the bribery offence but changed his plea to guilty during his trial in December. Anwar, 36, of Littlebrook Avenue, Slough, Berkshire, and Ijaz, 34, of Chippingham Road, Sheffield, had admitted conspiring to offer bribes to professional cricketers at an earlier hearing. During their sentencing at Manchester Crown Court, Judge Richard Mansell QC said: "By far the most insidious consequence of these offences is the undermining of public confidence in the integrity of the sporting contest, not simply in the individual match directly affected but in the game of cricket generally." Anwar was jailed for 40 months, Ijaz sentenced to 30 months and Jamshed, who made more than 60 appearances for his country, for 17 months. Jamshed was previously banned from playing cricket for 10 years following an investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board's anti-corruption unit. Two other players, Sharjeel Khan - who carried out the PSL fix - and Khalid Latif, received five-year bans. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-51419342

NZ chase down 296 to win with 17 balls to spare and take the series 3-0, just as I expected. de Grandhomme got his 50 from 21 balls, Guptill 50 off 29. Nicholls dropped anchor for 80 off 102 balls, though some may have preferred he hit more boundaries, I felt it was an effective innings that was the main reason Guptill and dG had the freedom to swing. But that's just me...

To update a bit:
NZ have successfully registered a whitewash over India in ODI format. Bumrah failed to take any wicket. Tests might turn out to be a close contest unless Indian batsmen fail to apply themselves.
Saffers have had two close games against England in t-20 format. I saw a bit of one of them and that was a good game.
