Just watching the highlights from Sri Lanka v England. Looks like Leach throughout was pitching the ball about where Lyon should have in Brisbane. Not surprised he took 4 in the 2nd innings. Simple game cricket: pitch the ball where the batsman's not certain how to play it and you're in the frame to take wickets.

14 wickets tumble on Day One of Pakistan/ South Africa test. Saffers shot out for 220, then Rabada fires up, knocks over both Pakistan openers and the rest claim 2 more, one of which was the nightwatchman, Pakistan 4-33 at stumps.
And good on Saffers for going to Karachi.

Tbh, India should more ashamed of Burns reaching double figures than most of their dismissals. Unfortunately it's pretty clear now that this is not going to be a competitive series. Australia will win 4-0, and they'll all be big wins, starting with a 9 or 10 wicket win here. Completely wrong apart from the Burns part.

And my only word on the Bash Boost: the idea used this year in the BBL that the team who has more runs after 10 overs gets a point. Some were annoyed when the Awful Renegades received a bonus point in a game the lost by over 100 runs. Well the very last game of the year did it for me.
Sydney Sixers need 1 point to finish top, Melbourne need full points to play finals. Sydney seal the BP after 48 balls meaning that, even though the game was a thriller with the Sixers winning with a ball to spare, there was no tension and no consequences. Sydney had finished top and the Stars had missed the Finals with 12 overs to spare.

I’m still scratching my head trying to work out how the Stars, who had the services for the entire campaign of Stoinis, Maxwell, Zampa, NCN, Stanlake, Maddison and Cartwright missed the finals when 5 of 8 qualify.

Saffers hanging in there in Pakistan. Have themselves 29 ahead and 4 down. Will probably be an easy chase for Pakistan but cricket is a funny game.
Kagiso Rabada just brought up his 200th test wicket. Averaging about 22 and a strike rate of 40. He is 25 years old...

Saffers 8-239 now and yet again Temba's left batting with the tail. I can't believe that they still put him at 6 every innings. De cock's the guy you want batting with the tail, not an accumulator like Temba. I wonder how many more runs Temba specifically and Saffers more broadly, would be scoring if they just put guys where they were most likely to impact the game?

Pakistan looking like 10 wicket winners. 220 in the first innings in Karachi isn’t winning many games. I don’t understand RSA’s batting lineup either. Far too much pressure on QDK. He’s a hitter, and a good one. A 5 he is not.

Pakistan win by 7 wickets. If anyone's interested, the PCB are streaming these games live on youtube and, thankfully IMO,have piped in crowd effects. I really do think a little ambience makes a big difference. Sky should take note ahead of England's home series against India.
Some piss weak T20 batting from the Strikers last night. Alex Carey 13 from 22 balls, Travis Head 12 off 21, Jake Weatherald 32 off 28. No wonder they only managed 130 in spite of only losing 4 wickets in the first 17 overs.
Joe Denly then played one of those antiquated innings that will always have a place in short form cricket run chases, keeping his cool after 3 early wickets were lost and guiding the chase with 41 from 40 balls. I know I criticised Weatherald for a better strike rate but context is everything. Jake dug the grave, Joe steadied the ship.

James Vince playing the type of innings he never could for England ad the Sydney Sixers destroy the Perth Scorchers.
Geez, did Blocker have to call that wide? Well, it was unreachable but wow. Vince 98no. Sixers win by 9 wickets with 18 balls to spare and are through to the final.
This will likely be the final as the Scorchers will be playing The Challenger at home and they don't lose many there.

Well, a few COVID disasters have changed the landscape here a bit.
The first news is that the Scorchers won’t play the Challenger at home, instead playing the Heat at Manuka. Surely it’s time for Lynn to shine !
The second, and more importantly, Australia has canned their Test tour to South Africa.
This has a few flow on effects to the “World Test Chanpionships”. First, it means NZ qualified for the final by virtue of Australia’s slow over rates in Melbourne by 4 points. Who they play is dependent on the results in the India v England series. The following is based on my dodgy maths skills : For Australia to qualify : Any drawn series (0-0, 1-1, 2-2) or India wins 1-0 or 2-0, or England wins 2-0, 2-1 or 1-0. England : A series win 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0 (in other words, no chance) India : A series win 2-1, 3-0, 3-1, 4-0. So Australia wants some unseasonable rain. And lots of it.

Hard to believe that the same Keshav Maharaj who looked so out of his depth in India last year is the one bowling in Rawlpindi today. Looks like striking every over! Linde was bowling well too, but looks like he just broke his little finger. Pakistan 3-47, Maharaj 2-20.
On a side note, Fawad's stance really pisses me off. Think Craig McMillan ti Shane Warne only he does it to everyone! I hope he hits his front foot with his bat trying to play a horizontal shot just to teach him a lesson!

3 interesting games going on.
Bangladesh in a strong position over a second string Windies team. Currently 170 ahead with West Indies 7 down.
Saffers have made progress through Pakistan's middle order, triggered by a brilliant run out of Fawad by Bavuma. Now 7-229.
England 2-120 odd against India with Sibley passing 50 and Root in the 30s looking as solid as a brick shit house.

Congratulations Joe Root. 20th test century and third in a row! Might gave to start calling him Joe the Converter soon.
Can you imagine the ceiling for this guy if he does start converting regularly? He passes 50 every 3 innings. If he makes 1 in 2 of those a hundred from here it's scary how many runs he might score.

Sibley falls in the 80s last ball of the day. England 3-263. Decent lead in for Stokes, Pope and Buttler. Bess at 8 too. England should get 450+ from here, many more if Root keeps going.
Saffers 4-107 at stumps in reply to Pakistan's 272. Looking like a decent first innings lead for Pakistan with Maharaj batting 8.
Bangladesh lose three early wickets in their second innings but finish day Day 3 in a good position 218 ahead. Wouldn't want to collapse tomorrow though. A sub 275 chase is winnable for anyone on that pitch.

England have to do what India does so well at home here. Get a big 500-600 first innings and scoreboard pressure the hell out of the opposition.
Pakistan v South Africa - 2 very unpredictable sides. So I won’t predict anything.
Bangladesh could lose 7/7 today, and still win easily. Batting is definitely the weak suit of the Windies.

Oz News round up: Sixers beat Perth pretty easily to win the BBL Title. Vince set it up with 95. Christian was, as usual, superb, whacking a quick 20 and taking 2-25. Don't know who was named player of the Tourney, but if Christian isn't the most important player for whatever team he's playing for than people must be watching a different comp to the one I do.
Cricket awards. Cummins test player of the year. Smith ODI player of the Year and AB medallist. Ashton Agar T20I player of the year. Beth Mooney won the Belinda Clarke Medal. Elyse Villani (NFI) and this thread's fave S Marsh won the domestic player of year. Will Sunderland and Hannah Darlington won the young players awards. Joshua Lalor won the community award for saying cricket is a racist sport. In the HOF: Merv Hughes, Lisa Shtalekar and Johnny Mullagh who scored 1698 runs and claimed 245 wickets on the long ignored 1868 Aboriginal tour of England were all inductees I have no issue with.

England batting on. More power to them. Force India to field an extra session and then dare them to either get to the follow on target or bat for 250 overs.

England on fire! India 4-73. Kohli and Rahane both gone. Brilliant catch by Root to get rid of Rahane. We may have a game here.
West Indied need another 152 to win with 7 wickets in hand. You'd reckon Bangladesh have enough runs to play with to win out but we'll see.
