T20 World Cup Qualifier: Ireland one win away from World Cup spot Ireland will play Oman for a place in the T20 World Cup having advanced to the semi-finals of the Qualifier with a seven-wicket victory over Germany. A disciplined bowling performance saw Ireland restrict Germany to 107-7 from their 20 overs in Oman. Paul Stirling (34) and Andrew Balbirnie (32) put Ireland in firm control, with Harry Tector hitting the winning runs from the first ball of the 14th over. The Irish will play their semi-final on Tuesday. Bahrain's two-run victory over the UAE means Ireland advance as group winners and will play the tournament hosts for a place in the World Cup in Australia later this year. Having lost the opening game against the UAE, Ireland knew they had to win their remaining group games against Bahrain and Germany in order to salvage their qualifying aspirations. "We were really good. there was a bit in it for the bowlers and they bowled really tightly," said captain Balbirnie after Monday's win. "It was a really complete performance and we're slowly getting to where we want to at the right time of the tournament." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/60461510Bit of a fat bloke on the left!

Rod Marshall rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack. Seems his heart stopped but Paramedics were able to save his life.
Apparently suffered the heart attack while a passenger in a car with two cricket administrators. Fortunately for him they acted quickly enough to get him help in time.

Yep, Marsh. Bloody autocorrect. Not good news today. Rod's still in an induced coma. On the field there's an intriguing test match in NZ. Saffers currently 5 down in their second innings leading by 211. Could be a good finish in the offing. If they do win they'll owe much to de Grandhomme (120no).

And a very happy 78th birthday to Saffer batting legend Graeme Pollock for yesterday. He was well on the way to having one of the greatest test careers ever when apartheid's consequences curtailed it after 23 tests, 2256 runs and 7 centuries.

I'm more surprised that they expect people to pay as much for a Dan Lawrence or James Vince bat as for Stokes or Taylor.

For the top of the range - that’s not a bad price actually. A Grey Nicholls, Kookaburra or MRF bat would be in the £775-£800 range, more for a custom made or limited edition. I know that you could buy the exact specs of Virat Kohli’s bat from MRF for $1850 AUD - which is about £1000, and the extra premium Grey Nicholls bat with the fancy stickers and certificate was about the same. But I think COViD killed those off. if I was going to spend that kind of money on a bat, I’d go to Bradbury and get a hand crafted, any way I want bat. For $1000 (£550)….

RIP Rod Marsh. Fails to recover from his coma. He was 74. Soory to hear that. RIP. Great player, great character. Two players who are intrinsically linked to the romanticised version of the Australian Character are Rod Marsh and Doug Walters. Wonderful player, and a very underrated administrator and director. RIP

The main player I link with Marsh is Dennis Lillee, not just because of the c.Marsh b.Lillee stat and 355 each and both being West Aussies who left test cricket together (though Marsh continued in the ODI series later that summer), but th they were both absolute stalwarts of WA cricket. I have a special fascination with the passion with which retired West Aussies follow their state team. Lillee, Marsh, Hughes, Aldermann all of them can't go five minutes into an interview without talking about the current performance of the WA team. A bit of parochialism. Love it.

Pakistan win the toss and bat and they're looking to bat big. 0-93 ten minutes from lunch. In a move that will trigger aj, The first session is going 30 minutes longer ahead of an extended lunch break for Friday prayers.
Cummins is bowling really well on this road, (and it is a road) so bat first, bat big and the game usually comes to you.

On the field - 2 tests begun today.
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan won the toss and batted on a road and have made hay. 0/93 after 30 overs is a very good start. Social media, as fickle as ever, is claiming that Australia has already lost and wouldn’t be in this position if Langer was still coach. Lol.
In Mohali/Chandigarh - India 2/140. Kohli and Vihari look nicely set.
