Stokes was so lucky. Out to a no ball on 1. Losing wickets off no balls isn't bad luck, it's bad cricket. I remember England being guilty of it several times last summer. No sympathy for them then and none for NZ now.

Positive start for England so far. Now they need 50 runs to win with no wicket lost so far. Going for singles and doubles only.

Ball is doing nothing here and new ball is still long way away. England now firmly in drivers seat with just 25 runs needed. Root 8 runs away from both 10,000 runs and another century.

This pitch has flattened out nicely. In hindsight, I think Williamson should’ve opted to bowl first.

Some random stats: 3 of the 5 highest successful run chases at Lord's have been against NZ.
Root is the only player to reach 10'000 runs within 10 years of debuting.
Root's 115no is the 2nd highest total in a successful run chase at Lord's, though he was someway short of a Gordon Greenidge's record 204no in 1984.
The first 4 wickets across the 4 innings of the match averaged 14.56. Only 4 lower in test cricket history. Lowest was 10.56 in 2018. Sri Lanka and the West Indies. Surely that weird 4th test in the Caribbean earlier in the year would be in that list somewhere?

Australia giving SL a lesson in T20…. Starc and Hazlewood engineer a collapse of 9-28, all out 128, then Warner and Finch share an unbeaten 101 in 11 overs before the rain closed in.

2nd game a little more competitive. Same result though. Australia take the series. Cupboard's pretty bare for Sri Lanka atm and Australia are travelling nicely. Home side will have done well if they aren't white washed in all 3 formats.

I am unable to believe this. Is it scripted?

Sri Lanka prove Hosko wrong by winning the final T20I. Looks like it was a ripping game too, and the only one that most Sri Lankans would have seen. The nation was still being subjected to 10 hour per day power outages caused by fuel scarcity and worker's strikes when the first two games took place.
Ollie Pope playing a scorching knock in the test match 51no from 73 balls. He'll need at least a hundred more though after Mitchell's 190 took NZ to 553. England 1-90 in reply (Lees 33no and needing a 3 figure score).

Having watched the highlights I did the game a disservice by calling it a ripping game: it was one of the greatest T20Is ever played and was won by one of the great captain's innings in that format. Shanaka hit 54 off 25 balls as Sri Lanka scored 58 off the final 17 official deliveries of the match, including 21 off Josh Hazlewood's last over, to win with a ball to spare.

Those final 3 overs were crazy. It’s like Shanaka knew where Hazlewood was going to bowl. Then the last 2 overs were a lesson in bowlers having no Plan B and missing the mark with Plan A. Wide Yorkers are fine - but they have to be wide Yorkers. Long half vollleys outside off aren’t the best place to bowl.

At Trent Bridge - Pope and Root are carving NZ all over the shop. 252/2 - still 301 behind though. NZ need a point of difference - Jamieson, Henry and Southee all a bit similar.

In Pakistan - the hosts have slumped a touch to 155/5 off 33. The destroyer is Nicholas Pooran with 4/48 off 10. Not bad for a bloke who previously had only bowled 12 balls across 3 innings in his entire First Class/List A career.

Elsewhere -
India take on South Africa in the 2nd T20i. RSA won the first with Miller and RVDD doing the job with the stick. South Africa field and have India 4/1 early on.
Afghanistan in front of Zimbabwe again In the 2nd T20. They’ve won the previous 3 ODIs and the first T20.
Nepal and USA had a tie in an ODI in Texas - on a pitch reminiscent of the old pitches at Sabina Park, Kingston Jamaica. Sort of rock hard rolled and polished mud. No grass at all on it. Part of the seemingly never ending League 2 qualifier for the 2023 WC.

England 5-473 at stumps. Root 163no, Pope 145 Stokes 46, Foakes 24no.
Saffers beat India, Windies struggling against Pakistan. Still need 100 to win with 3 wickets in hand.

Wide Yorkers are fine - but they have to be wide Yorkers. Long half vollleys outside off aren’t the best place to bowl. Shanaka's demolition of Hazlewood (in an over where he didn't do much wrong) made them nervous and they tightened up. Don't think there was too much more to it than that. You see things like that Hazlewood over happen. I remember Ajay Jadeja of all people taking 22 off a Waqar Younis over. It actually reminded me of Jayasuriya getting stuck into McGrath in Perth and baseball clubbing him straight for 6 about half a dozen times. Nothing wrong with the bowling, he was just in a zone.

Test match at an interesting place. NZ 238 ahead with 3 wickets in hand. Let of people saying advantage England but, really? 250+ chase on the last say is easy now? Maybe. No Demons in the pitch and the kiwis played some very poor cricket on Day 4. Lot of batters out chipping the ball to infielders, skying horizontal bat shots and 2 run outs.
England's batting is no Rolls Royce. If they do get there, it will be 8 or 9 down.

Jhye Richardson bowling rubbish late in the innings again. No idea why he was given an extra over at the end instead of Cummins. Pat only bowled 8 overs. They couldn't get him away. Jhye comes on, bowls in the slot, and Hasaranga goes 444442. Sri Lanka looked like reaching 280 if they were lucky. Well north of that now.
Edit: Sri Lanka reach 300. Chaseable total but 20 more than it should have been. I guess with Jhye they're just going to keep putting him in the position and tell him to paddle until he learns how to swim. Courtney Walsh gave up huge last over runs several times at the start of his career in the 1987 World Cup and he turned out alright.
