Sri Lanka picked an attack to bowl second and are instead bowling first and doing it very ineffectually apart from one ball from Rajitha which would have knocked over any lefty in the history of cricket. Absolute peach. Australia 1-49 and largely untroubled.

Khawaja Falls to Mendis who set him up well for a couple of overs. SL with 2 wickets against the run of play.

Controlled hundred for Marnus. Should have been stumped on 25: Dickwella missing a simple change, but has looked very safe since.
Finally stumped on 104. Marnus doesn't really bat big any more, does he? Well bowled. Saw him coming and turned it past him. First test wicket for Jayasuriya.
Smith 52no looking well set but we've said that a lot lately and he's found a way to get out. Australia on top at 3-204. And that's tea from beautiful Galle...

And Smith with a hundred too. Looks like he's wanting to make it a big one.

Australia 5-298. Our day well and truly. Even if we lose 5-50 odd tomorrow I think 350 is more than enough against a rather underwhelming SL batting line up. Impressive debut from Jayasuriya. 3-90 and will have his chance for a well deserved five fer tomorrow.

Australia 298/5 at stumps.
Carey 16* Smith 109*
Very, very strong position for the tourists, with the reports that this pitch will very likely resemble a beach by Day 3. Sri Lanka might need a 500 run first knock to get any traction in this game. Just can’t see it happening.
Elsewhere - India defeat England and Windies defeat Bangladesh in T20’s, with IPL stars Hardik Pandya and Nicholas Pooran doing most of the heavy lifting for their respective sides.

Well done by Sri Lanka and particularly Jayasuriya for hurrying through Australia on Day 2. 364 all out not a super total in fairly benign conditions. Problem for them is that Australia will bowl well and I don't expect SL to bat well.

Sri Lanka punching away - 184/2 chasing 364 Stumps day 2. Still need about 380 more runs to really make the Aussies sweat.

T20 on live on BBC2.
Poor start for England chasing India’s 170. Another golden duck, this time for Roy. Buttler out for four. That’s eight runs between them in the first two T20s.
Livingstone out. 27/3.
It’s over.

England are utter gash. What an indisciplined shower of shite. But wait wasn't the man who captained England to the ODI World Cup win and 2 WT20 Finals such a drag on the team's performance that his retiring would lead the team to new heights? To be fair to England India are the best T20 team in the world. So there's that...

In the red ball stuff, clearly Lanka's day. Hurried through Australia's tail and a strong start in reply. Karunaratne's late dismissal (he'd never looked like getting out) the only blot on their copy book on Day 2. They need to get themselves 100 in front at least. That's a tall order.

Have to give Sri Lanka a lot of credit here. They've made sure they're batting during the best batting conditions of the game. Probably not scoring quickly enough to win the game but this is a good performance from a team who look out matched on paper. Really giving it a crack.

Australia absolutely wobbling at 74/4 still over 100 behind.
Time to see how good Marnus and Green really are…..

Sri Lanka certainly showed this sceptic who expected them to lose every game in all 3 formats. I don't know if the social unease affected Australia's performance but it certainly inspired Sri Lanka, particularly here.
Extraordinary debut for Jayasuriya with 12 wickets. Extraordinary innings from Chandimal who had 3 different stages to his innings: dogged defence, free playing consolidation and T20 slogging. Ultimately a par score batting first was about 450. Australia didn't bat well enough or bowl well enough to keep themselves in the game and deserved that innings defeat.
Let's not forget two of our bats made hundreds. So that 364, so far as team batting, was worse than it looked. Once Sri Lanka got their turn they really dug in and showed what an inadequate first innings total Australia had managed. Lyon, so instrumental in the first test victory, was completely ineffective here. Swepson solidified his place in the pecking order with another 3 fer. He'll go to India as the second spinner. Starc bowled well, but Cummins, quite understandably, didn't want to over use him. Cummins, like Lyon, was outstanding in the first test and largely a non-entity in the second.
Well done Lankans. Cricket is always better when they are good and this should give them something to build on.

Some stat's. 554 is Sri Lanka's highest team score against Australia (previous best -547 in a 16 run loss in 1992). 206 is SL's highest individual score against Australia (previous best Sanga's 192 at Hobart where he looked destined for many more than 206 but was given out caught off his shoulder). SL's 5th test victory against Australia and first by an innings. 364 is Australia's highest first innings total in an innings defeat (335 v England in 1985 in the Gower 215 match was the previous record). Somewhat short of England's 405 at the Oval in 1930. It was also the third highest team total in any innings defeat Australia have suffered. Only the third time Australia have lost by an innings in the SC after batting first. Jayasuriya's 12 fer is the best debut effort for Sri Lanka and 4th best overall. The first time a man has taken 12 on debut against Australia in 142 years (Fred Martin). Only Herath has better match figures against Australia for SL (13 for 145).

Police rumble fake 'IPL' cricket league Police in India have arrested a group of conmen who set up a fake version of cricket's Indian Premier League (IPL) and fooled gamblers in Russia. Punters parted with more than 300,000 rupees (almost $4,000), police said. The conmen staged the match on a farm in Gujarat, paying labourers to pose as players, sporting jerseys of real IPL teams, with a bogus umpire instructed to signal a boundary or wicket. They even hired a man to mimic famous cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle. Players were paid around 400 rupees ($5) per game and broadcast the matches live over a YouTube channel called IPL. The channel would never show a wide shot of the pitch, and crowd noise sound effects were downloaded from the internet and played through a speaker. The tournament began three weeks after the actual IPL concluded in May, police said. Despite this, the conmen managed to reach the quarter-finals stage of their so-called "Indian Premier Cricket League" before police stopped play. Russian gamblers placed bets on a Telegram channel set up by the gang, who then alerted the fake umpire using walkie-talkies, police inspector Bhavesh Rathod told reporters. The fake umpire would then "signal the bowler and batsman to hit a six, four or get out", Mr Rathod said. Police have arrested four people in connection with the case. Betting on cricket is illegal in India, and the suspects have been charged with criminal conspiracy and gambling, Reuters reported. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-62123966

Tuned in for my daily dose of England's being shit at white ball cricket. That's got to be their worst performance since the 2015 WC, doesn't it? That was horrible. Go Bumrah! You superstar!
