It's not like some of the Australian teams didn't carry on when they were favourites too. I think india did cross a line a bit but I don't exactly think Australia are in much position to complain.
Smith was clearly trying to gain an edge. Kohli's carry on the whole test didn't exactly gain him sympathy on that incident, but I think he was right to complain on that occasion.
NZ v SA today. Southee got dropped, my my, someone finally grew some balls. I bet he didn't take it well either.... if the pitch is like the usual Dunedin one you can expect a lot of runs.

BH, Hamsterman. Regarding Smith - I don't think anyone else has done it, and India was right to complain, but Llong (the umpire) was well aware of it, and acted upon it immediately. I don't think Smith or Handscomb deliberately cheated - as in knew exactly it was wrong and then tried to cover it up. Like Smith said, "it was a brain fade". I'll give Kohli the benefit of the doubt, but charging up to umpires yelling and gesticulating isn't a good look either. My point regarding India is that they really struggle to find the middle ground when it comes to aggression. Kohli can beat his chest all he likes, but in reality he has very little say on the outcome of two tests so far, yet he is carrying on like he's the champion. Ishant Sharma falls into the same boat. Controlled aggression is fine, but the carry on yesterday can only come back and bite you.
NZ v RSA - I'm surprised NZ went with 2 spinners. The Black Caps look a little light on in batting for mine. RSA 3/63 at lunch, after being 3/22.
SL v Bang - SL 4/321 at stumps. Kausal Mendis scored 160*, and this is probably Bangladeshs best bowling line up ever. I think they'll be chasing something close to 500 in the fourth innings...

NZ is really letting their good start get away here as SA extend their total to 91 with still just 3 down.
I personally don't read too much into drama involving Kohli and actions of Smith. I personally dislike Kohli and his behaviour. In any case, the second match was a classic and I don't consider 75 runs victory as comfortable victory for India. This was a close match until half of the 4th day. I personally do like to see more of games like this one than games in which one team posts 500 + runs.

Once Marsh and Wade went it was virtually over. It was a classic though, and low scoring games usually are. Salter and I have been banging on about this for years (over a decade actually), and I'd rather these than 500 v 500 batting snoozefests.

It will be interesting to see how Henry Nicholls goes. His only big scores have been against Bangladesh on flatter decks than a road and a 74 in the second time at bat against SA where the game was as good as over already. I think there are better options available long term. The other problem is BJ Watling seems to have forgotten how to bat. He's got 5 test tons , but in the last 15 months he's been poor.

South Africa need to up the run rate if they want to win this test. Bad weather is coming on the weekend, they probably need to be bowling just after tea really.

They'll speed up Ham - when de Kock comes in. Doesn't look like it's going to rain anytime soon - lovely blue skies on my TV !
To be fair, I couldn't tell you who should be in the team ahead of Nicholls.
Just as I speak, Wagner dismisses Elgar.
In other news, Mitchell Marsh has been sent home with a sore shoulder. He was getting dropped anyway, better physios in Australia than Ranchi I believe. Marcus Stoinis has been called up. He will only get a start if the pitch is the same colour as Australia's caps. Khawaja or Maxwell will come in.

I assume Khawaja has been injured?
Well they didn't speed up, they just got all out by the looks. Elgar's innings may well have been a very good knock on this pitch.

NZ has turned it around a bit and are looking marginally ahead of SA at the moment but given that NZ still trail by 190 runs (currently 117/1) the match is open. Edit: And it seems I cursed them as they just lost a wicket. 117/2 hamsterman11 Did you watch the match today? How well did they bowl to lower of SA? Must have been good comeback of a sort.

Bob
Re Ranchi: Jamshedpur and Ranchi both are located in the same state. Both were part of my birth state before 2000, when another state was created. Dhoni's rise made sure that Ranchi became the international host ahead of Jamshedpur. The Indian wicket keeper comes from the small city of Ranchi.

I didn't get to watch much unfortunately AJ but I did see Nicholls get out to a great catch from Amla and Patel and Kane survive Philander's rather superb bowling at the end of the day. Losing Taylor is a massive blow.

Yeah - both in Bihar now Jharkhand ? i knew Dhoni was influential, but that's insane !

NZ now 288/6 - trailing by 20. Cricinfo is saying Taylor can bat 'if required'. Another classy knock by Williamson.
England smashed the Windies again.
Bangladesh bowled out 190 odd short in the first Innings.

Yes, both are in Jharkhand now. Dhoni's status also made sure Ranchi got the opportunity to host a lot of home games of Chennai Super Kings. Chennai is in south and there is no connection with Ranchi in any sort of way so that just tells how influential he was in influencing his CSK team too. Two smaller reasons though would have been that Ranchi became the capital of Jharkhand and India had a very bad record in Jamshedpur. Still Ranchi should never have gotten Test status ahead of so many other grounds.

weather is improving for the weekend in Dunedin, might be able to get a result in. SA's third innings will probably be the decider, more than 220ish lead and they will be favourites.

Two sixes in last 3 balls! Could be very handy. Lead is 29 with 1 wickets in hand. This is a good chance for NZ. They could chase up to 225 I guess.

Khawaja's not injured, they've just decided he's a liability in spinning conditions. While I-m no fan of Maxwell, he would seem more logical than M. Marsh or Stoinis. S Marsh is a decent selection for SC tests but nowhere else.

Oh snap, the other, far more important Mitch is going home too. They have to replace him with a pacemen. 3 man spin attack ain't gonna cut it.

Crazy. Isn't Ranchi literally up the road from Kolkata ?

Huge news with M.Marsh now Starc injured and going home. Stoinis replacing Marsh in the squad is fine, I'm not convinced on the rationale behind the selection though. Trevor Hohns basically said Stoinis's bowling ability got him over the line. That's handy for a number six in a side that's not scoring enough runs. My guess is that they will probably replace Marsh with Maxwell. Here is his big chance really. 2 tests to perform well and really cement his spot. He has the talent, is his temperament up to it ?
As for Starcs replacement - I think it will be Cummins, even if he is really underdone. Cue all the Victorian butthurt about another NSW selection ahead of their boy Pattinson. I think Cummins just has that 'X Factor' about him. He bats better than Pattinson too, so that will probably get him over the line.
