I was browsing through a football forum where most of the posters are Brits. There is mixed reaction to this. Some believe Root was being a "raging SJW" and some thought it could have been a release of frustration of recent failures of team and himself.

Well, raging SJW alert in Oz Aj. Some fucking snowflakes complaining that a restsurant bill had "asians" as the table they were charging. Apparently Asian is a racist derogatory word now.
On this Gabriel thing, I agree with Root, but think the public outcry is typical sanctimonious SM drivel. I've written lots of column inches in my life. Chances are I'vr written silly or ignorant things unintentionally. I've never apologised for any of them because I'm not willing to apologise for all of them. My story offended you? Cool. Maybe my next one won't.

Australians can find an outrage can’t they.
I think Root got it spot on too. An SJW would’ve got so fcking triggered they’d have thrown their bat, taken their gloves and pads off and either a) demanded Gabriel apologise to all non heterosexual people immediately and the game shall not continue until it does or b) Root fell to the ground sobbing, screaming and leaking vaginally about the injustices of it all and retiring to the foetal position muttering something about not my president......

Spot on by the boy Root 👍
Showed great maturity to tell Gabriel that homophobia is unacceptable.

No comments from Shannon Gabriel please! Lol......Here in India fag is used for cigarettes. But I can get the irony there.
It's been reported that Gabriel called Root 'b**** boy'. What does it even mean? In any case sheer stupidity from the windies pacer. He is an idiot.

Yes, fag is still used here as a synonym for a cigarette. Batty boy means bottom boy I think. It's Jamaican for homosexual. Pretty well known insult in the UK.

That’s about the list I thought. The only surprises for me - Pollock looks high, No Lillee nor Trueman.

Chances are I'vr written silly or ignorant things unintentionally. I've never apologised for any of them because I'm not willing to apologise for all of them. My story offended you? Cool. Maybe my next one won't. I think the worst insults I use against others are words like idiot, moron, stupid etc.etc. I believe people should be respectful of others unless those others give reasons to not be respectful towards them. Even if people give you a reason to not be respectful towards them it is wiser to not target their community or the larger group that they may be part of. However, in the real world, I wouldn't expect everyone to be like me. There may be people who have lived in an environment where insults are normal. There are better ways to address such conflicts than calling for bans or suspensions. The reason I feel why SJWs make things worse is that they seem to make people weak. They usually want to convince minorities that all the problems they face happens to because of the majority and thereby instill minorities with a victim mentality. I do not believe in immediate bans for people making comments that are not so nice to hear. That kind of behaviour may fill some with more disdain towards certain groups. There are people among the gay community for instance who regularly use T word as insults for transgenders. SJW type of behaviour creates conflicts in such situation to the discontentment of all. That said I agree with you all that Root was not being a raging SJW as was alleged by certain posters on a football forum. That said I wouldn't like to see any overreaction from ICC on this issue. They should go by their rules and not by public pressure. OKay, if the existing rules direct that Gabriel be banned for a few games then I am fine with it. But that is only if the already existing rules make it possible to ban him. Not because of public pressure. Public pressure/mob mentality is an extremely barbaric form of justice.
Re: Beliving that the word "Asians" represents insult. It's things like this that annoy me. This is where you instill hatred/victim mentality among the minorities. And all for not much.

Gabriel has accepted misconduct charge... Fined 75% of match fee, and banned for next four matches.

4 match ban is absolutely ridiculous. 25% of his match fee would have been sufficient.

SA bowled out for just 235 by the Lankans. In reply the Lankans are 45/1. Here's the wicket package in case one wnats to see. Some good disciplined bowling that got rewarded well even if some of the dismissals were casual. Two good catches in there.

It just seems a little bonkers that Gabriel would be like that given that his team had already won the series. Though while I think a 4 match ban is over the top (1 match would have bee my punishment), there is no place for it. Sledging is fine, but you have to have a boundary in this day and age and he crossed it. I thought Root handled it brilliantly my self, a proper captain's reaction. Good on him.

13 Feb 2019 International Test Match Series - Day 2 of 5
South Africa
First innings - 235 all out
Second innings 126 for 4 wickets (37.0 overs )
Sri Lanka
First innings 191 all out
Close - South Africa lead Sri Lanka by 170 runs with 6 wickets remaining
Could be interesting but I wouldn't fancy Lanka chasing more than 250.
