So he wants to do the actual Superman. The version that made the character popular for generations. Sounds good.

Yup. What taylorfirst1 said. The question is, why don't the studios understand this?

As long as his Superman movie doesn't end up being boring like Donner film, I'm cool with that.

Yup. What taylorfirst1 said. The question is, why don't the studios understand this? I know I'm going to get a select few on my head for saying this, but... WB/DC do understand this. The thing is that they are in competition with Marvel and are reactionary (Suicide Squad is their Guardians of the Galaxy). No matter how many times they say to the contrary, they are. The Marvel movies for the most part are light and fun and adventurous except for when they darken the tone for some deeper character moments. DC wants to go against that. Instead of making the movies to go with the characters, they are making the movies to not be "them."

Superman Returns is worse than The Force Awakens in how they copied the 1st movie of that series.

What are your thoughts on his idea? My thoughts on this is that I wish he made Man of Steel and BvS and Justice League and Days of Future Past and Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

I am admittedly curious about what his Superman Returns sequel would have been like. Apparently Brainiac was the villain. As much as I dislike it, Kevin Spacey was a godsend as Lex Luthor. So seeing him interact with whoever they got for the other villain would have been amazing.

What are your thoughts on his idea? Sounds like you'll hate it, considering you all but deepthroat the bleak and dreary approach of the DCEU.

Bryan Singer already tried "modern Donner" It flopped. Bryan Singer is also a director of limited of skill. Vaughn has shown a much greater range than him.

I don't necessarily agree with that statement, but, to each his own. ![](https://s26.postimg.org/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif) Singer has been coasting on The Usual Suspects and that he made a movie titled X-men for the last 20 plus years. Superman Returns was, for the most part, a remake of Superman '78. Any other movie he made that wasn't X-men has been swept under the rug and forgotten. He then lends his name to tv shows. He comes back to X-men with Days of Future Past, the story already started by Vaughn, and then changes it to be a psuedo remake of X2. Then goes on to make a ground up X-men movie with Apocalypse and tries to copy the way another franchise makes their movies. The movie is so middle of the road that it is forgotten and he leaves the franchise again. This time only adding his name to more tv shows based on the property. He was so into trying to keep that X-men magic that he wanted to make movies in the same vein as X-men. Logan's Run... remake and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea... remake. With Ian McKellen as Nemo... basically the same character as Magneto. Singer is very limited.

Yes! Finally someone who understands the character of Superman. I'd love to see this Superman, but I think Henry Cavill would need to go. He's just not a great actor. He doesn't have the charisma to play that kind of Superman. Warner Bros. would have to find a charismatic actor that will embody the role of Superman for this to work.

Maybe he just needs the right director. They cold be just using that he looks like he can play Superman. He has that look in the BTS pics he takes. Maybe he needs to hang out with The Rock and Will Smith and get some of that charisma.

Supes then has to kill his son. I think Spacey would have been an amazing original acted Luthor. Didn't like that the whole movie had everyone imitating the cast of the Donner movie.

I've been keeping out of this conversation after my original post because I'm that weird guy who loved Superman Returns. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I thought it was emotionally moving, well-acted, well-directed, and all "...color, feel-good, heroic," featuring a character who's "...a beacon of light in darkness," as Vaughn put it so well. That's Superman for me.
