I think they have to.
Marvel let Wonder Woman go for 2 weeks before they started promoting their own stuff again, but with Thor being in only it's second week when Justice League hits, I think Marvel has to, and will, promo the hell out of Thor to keep the focus on their brand as much as possible. I just don't think they'll sit there and hope word of mouth keeps Thor as the main topic of conversation. This is a direct head to head competition, and they'll try to make Justice League as much of an afterthought as they can.
What do you think?

I'm sure they'll do something to draw attention away, it's just business. Like I said elsewhere, WB had a similar scenario last November and it worked out fine.

Honestly, I don't they will need to. You mean the conversation will be that Thor is clearly the better film?

Well, no, I mean that Thor will open with huge numbers, no matter what JL is doing ( or not doing )

JL looks like shit and sounds like a mess. The signals are that its worse than BvS. It will make a ton of money on opening weekend and than collapse harder than DC-Fan's weener after jerking off on his Batfleckposter.

It'll likely make as much as Wonder Woman and BVS.

LOL!!! It's obvious that the OP is scared to death that JL is going to dominate Thor at the box office. What will happen is on Thor's 3rd weekend (when JL opens) Thor will have a massive drop like SMH did on its 2nd weekend. So Thor has only 2 weeks to get whatever it can at the box office because when JL opens, JL will destroy Thor.

That is if JL has any good word of the mouth going for it, if its a critical dud negative word of the mouth will spread quick and hurt profit, most likely resulting profit falling short of projections by warner brass.

Well, no, I mean that Thor will open with huge numbers, no matter what JL is doing ( or not doing ) Of course it will, but I'm more discussing how they approach marketing the film leading up to JL's release and shortly there after. Do they pump up the adds to keep people excited for Thor and water down JL.

Thor will be too good? JL will be too weak? Ads won't make any difference? I'm trying to ask what your point is.

That's weird because my question is actually neutral to who wins or loses that box office race. I'm simply asking what Marvel will do leading up to JL's opening. Which part did he think I was scared in? Also he's awfully confident. Should be amusing to see the results.

I know, it's just fun taking the piss out of these guys. Anyways, Ragnarok is getting decent coverage. MCU is confident enough to let things go the way they're going.

I think he just made it...? Two weeks seems enough time to get a head start.

I think he just made it...? Two weeks seems enough time to get a head start. I'm being friendly when I say this but "they don't need to" doesn't answer the question, which was "why don't they need to" you actually gave a little bit of an answer to that, but my question was more along the lines of, are you saying Thor will be that strong, or 2 weeks is all the money they need and to hell with any drop off after, that JL simply won't compete, that they aren't interested in spending on additional ads, or something else? There's a lot of possible motivations here.
