Bob Dylan or Billy Joel? I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question. Bob Dylan is a slightly better songwriter, maybe. Billy Joel is a far better singer. But seriously who do you like more?

I'd pick the worst live performance of a terrible Dylan track over anything ever recorded by Joel.

Despite not being a particularly big fan of him, Dylan by a large margin

I like Billy Joel, but it's a bit of a love-hate thing. I didn't care for Dylan's voice until Lay Lady Lay and then Blood on the Tracks came out, then gradually came to appreciate it, even in this millennium. Dylan easily at this point.

Dylan, easily, not that I’m a particularly big fan of his, but I’d be hard pressed to name a similar big name artist with a decades long career that I like less than Joel.

Well now that you mention it... I've never seen the GODFATHER PART II, but I own BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES on DVD. Well, GODFATHER II is a billion times a better sequel than BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES. But that does not mean that BENEATH is worthless. It is not. Fantastic score, pretty cool destroyed New York sets, fantastic looking atomic bomb (it really wouldn't look like that -- gold and with fins???), the mole men makeup is impressive, apes are cool as always....BENEATH is a terrible sequel but still a good film to watch.

I'm actually quite fond of BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES. I admit BENEATH is flawed, and not on the same level as the first film, but there was still a lot of creativity on display. Plus it's the only sequel set on the same planet of the apes that Charlton Heston went to in the original.

I don't listen to either much, but Bob Dylan has much better songs overall. I've never cared for Billy Joel much, piano man my....

it's the only sequel set on the same planet of the apes that Charlton Heston went to in the original. Uhh, all the sequels were set on the same planet of apes that Heston went to. I guess you must have watched a shortened version of the original film. In the full length version Heston is on a beach and he sees the Statue Of Liberty. Uhh, that means he was on Earth the whole time. BENEATH, ESCAPE, CONQUEST, and BATTLE - all the sequels - take place on Earth. Strange that you thought the apes were on a different planet. You surely missed out on the fun of those films.

You surely missed out on the fun of those films. I could have been clearer in my original statement. Yes, all the films were set on the same planet. But only the first two films have the same setting and the same timeline. (Yes, I know the original PLANET was set in 3978, and BENEATH was set in 3955, but that was a continuity error.) But the events of ESCAPE create an alternate timeline, in which similar, but not the same, events occur. In ESCAPE, Cornelius gives, from his perspective, a history lesson in which an ape named Aldo was instrumental in creating the future simian society. But in CONQUEST it is Cornelius' son Caesar who leads the apes in revolt, proving the timeline has been altered. Likewise BATTLE ends with the Lawgiver addressing a group of ape and human children. It's doubtful it was the exact same Lawgiver who wrote in PLANET's sacred scrolls, "Beware the beast man, for he is the devil's pawn." So while a cursory examination of the Planet of the Apes series makes it appear like a vicious circle, it wasn't quite true. In the act of going back in time in ESCAPE, the three ape-o-nauts altered the past and the future.

In the act of going back in time in ESCAPE, the three ape-o-nauts altered the past and the future. But the ape-o-nauts were the catalyst for all future events. Whether it was Caesar or Aldo, does not matter who led the CONQUEST...the same future will happen. The ape-o-nauts started something and it doesn't really matter if it was their offspring or Aldo (who you know is a rebellious ape in CONQUEST) that started the ball rolling for the future of the planet.

There's actually a discussion on this very topic in BATTLE. Ape Scientist Virgil describes time as a highway, with an infinite number of lanes going from the past to future. Furthermore Virgil says that it's possible to change lanes and thus change the future. The original point I was trying to make is that, using Virgil's analogy, only PLANET and BENEATH are set in the same "lane". The later films in the series represent different lane(s) that end up in a future that's similar, but not identical to, the one we saw in PLANET. I'm not trying to make a big deal about it, I just find it an interesting bit of trivia that only the first two films in the series share the same "lane".

Bob Dylan is the equivalent of throwing a thesaurus out of a moving car.
