I don't want to debate the logistics of God and why or why not He is or isn't real. I want to ask a simple question.
When you eventually die, if God exists and He's standing before you, and you have that moment right before he speaks to you.
"What is the thought that will go through your mind?"
Remember, this is hypothetical.

Since humans have historically held so many conflicting beliefs about his/her/its/their nature, I'd be wondering which god this is.

And what would you, as a believer think, should it not be your god that stands before you? What if the Buddha is right and you are simply reincarnated? What would your thoughts be if as your stand before god and he finds your life lacking?
My answer is the same for all those questions. I have lived my life as best I could adhering to the word of god as I see it. So regardless as to what actually lies beyond I know I am ready for whatever the outcome.

Which God? The God of the Bible? My response:
Well you're book is full of scientific and historical innacuracies, contradictions, and questionable morality, so there was no particular reason to believe or worship you.
A non-denominational/abstract God?:
Well I didn't believe in the God of the Bible, Allah, Ganesha, Zeus, Superman, etc, so it's not like most theists were entirely correct either.
In any case, my response would largely be there was no particular reason to believe in him (her?). I think he would understand.

"What is the thought that will go through your mind?" "Okay, well I'm not dead." A fortiori because the only way to have thoughts is to have a functioning brain, which requires a functioning body.

Maybe not in that exact phrase, but ultimately questioning his purpose for existence. His own and mine!

I'd begin questioning him of course, on a great many things that he supposedly was responsible for. Respect is supposed to be earned, not demanded.

In front of Osiris: "Should I whistle "Walk like an Egyptian"?" To Hades/Charon: "I don't have two silver coins. Do you accept modern currency or PayPal?" To Allah/JHWH/Lord: "Did you really pick a child molester as a prophet and a sociopath as a spokesperson?" To Kali (maybe not aloud): "Cows are nice animals, but beef is tasty. Do you get why I think your religion sucks?" To Odin, pointing at his missing eye: "Was it worth it?"

the spinning plates have fallen off the sticks
once the convoluted circus fun house mirrors were removed and the smoke blown out with a high powered fan it was then determined that the plates weren't even real plates but those cheezy plastic ones you get on an end cap at walmart.
then at least the centuries of spinning fairy tales while pumping an organ would have been worth something.

Well, I'll be damned. I guess that know-it-all, mellomoviereview, was right after all.
If you believe in the afterlife, you're in a can't lose situation. You see, if death is the absolute end, I won't be able to come up to you, stick out my tongue, and say, "See, I told you so"

When you eventually die, if God exists and He's standing before you, and you have that moment right before he speaks to you. "What is the thought that will go through your mind?"Probably quite a few thoughts. I imagine the mental process would be something like this : "Huh. So there's an afterlife after all. And a god, looks like. Wow, what a disappointment. So all that majestic universe was just... what? An experiment? A test of some kind for us? Some being's plaything? Bummer. "So I wonder what the afterlife is like? And what's god like? Lot of religions have a god, I wonder if any of them have the details close? He doesn't look like cthulhu at least, lol. And not the Flying Spaghetti Monster, no surprise there. Maybe he's the muslim one? The christian one? The jewish one? Maybe the shinto one... do they have a god? Man, I should have read up about shinto more. Well, I'll know in a minute, I guess. "And hey, if there's a god then why didn't he want us to know about him while we were alive? Maybe the deists have it right? Hmmm, but probably not since it seems like he wants to talk to everyone, I guess a deist god wouldn't want to do that. "Oh well, my turn for the talk. This will be interesting. Let's see what he has to say..." And what followed would depend on what he had to say.
