Outside of Stone & Douglas in Basic Instinct, I don't associate Paul Verhoeven films with good acting...lol. (Although I do enjoy his movies very much.)

Outside of Stone & Douglas in Basic Instinct, I don't associate Paul Verhoeven films with good acting...lol. (Although I do enjoy his movies very much.) That's funny because I don't even like most of his movies but I do like a handful of the performances in his movies quite a bit. I dislike Showgirls a lot but Gina Gershon is very good in it. The rest of the acting is pretty bad though. I'm going to assume you haven't seen Elle. |

I haven't seen it, but I know Huppert won a Golden Globe for it. I had no idea Verhoeven directed it! Is it any good? It is NOT a good movie but Huppert deserved an Oscar nomination. Besides the material it doesn't feel like a Paul Verhoeven movie imo. If I didn't know he directed it I would have never guessed. Basic Instinct and RoboCop are his only movies that are good as far as I'm concerned. The rest are either average or flat out bad. |
