Which one of these two early (1970s) classic Mr. Steven Spielberg films do you prefer?

Not even close. Jaws is a brilliant film and Close Encounters is a bore IMO.

Jaws easily, but Close Encounters is magnificent in its own right.

Jaws is one of my favorite films. Never cared for Close Encounters.

Close Encounters is boring, but with some iconic sequences.

Jaws.
I think Close Encounters would have been better if they had used Lance Henriksen's suggestion. In his own words: "I remember I walked up to Spielberg and said, “Steven, I want to capture one of these little aliens and drag him into a Porta Potty. I’ll throw my coat over him and drag him in there, and we’ll have one.” And he looked at me like… He looked at me incredulously. Like, “What the fuck?” Finally he said to me, “That’s a different movie.” I said, “Oh…”
A different more awesome movie, right?

First vote for Close Encounters. I don't love either, but I prefer Close Encounters by a reasonable margin.

Jaws easily. Close Encounters was a turgid slog.

If the choice were Jaws vs any film, I would pick Jaws.
But I love both films. They are both two of my favorite films.

Jaws. Close Encounters plods along and ends with silly pseudo-spiritualism. Can't think of too many films more disappointing.
